Different by nature.
Better together.
A character-driven preschool comedy about a wonderfully mismatched group of friends discovering that there’s more than one way to see the world.
Eggbuds is a character-driven animated preschool comedy about a wonderfully mismatched group of friends learning that there’s more than one way to see the world.
Every Eggbud has a recognisable personality, strengths, weaknesses and way of approaching everyday situations. Their differences create the comedy, but ultimately become the reason they’re stronger together.
The cast is loosely based on Myers-Briggs personality types and represents a broad spectrum of personalities and behaviours: the kinds of characters children may encounter in classrooms, friendships, workplaces and everyday life.
Through humour and relatable stories, Eggbuds explores social inclusion, empathy, understanding differences and personality development, without ever feeling like an educational programme.
Commercially, the egg concept is excellent for collectibility. Every character is a product waiting to happen:
Different Eggbud personalities children can identify with.
“Eggbuds isn’t just a potentially lucrative entertainment IP — it’s a guide for kids, helping them understand social inclusion, embrace differences, and navigate the diverse personalities they’ll encounter throughout their lives.”— Stephen Purcell, Eggbuds Creator
Eggbuds was created by Stephen Purcell. Born and raised in Ireland, Stephen now lives in Stockholm with his wife and son, and works in the legal sector of the music business.
The idea was inspired by watching children’s shows with his toddler son. Stephen saw an opportunity for content that could entertain while also helping children better understand themselves and the people around them. It came to life one morning when he and his son began decorating eggs from the fridge with markers.
Recognising the potential of the brand, Stephen began securing trademark rights for the Eggbuds name. He now holds ownership of the name under Class 28 (Toys, Games, Playthings) and Class 41 (Entertainment, Education, Multimedia Production) across the USA, UK, and Europe, providing a foundation for future licensing and brand development.
Alongside Eggbuds, Stephen is a published author and songwriter/producer. He is committed to building Eggbuds into a global entertainment brand and household name, combining creativity, humour and meaningful lessons to create something children and families can enjoy together.
As an animated series, EggBuds is more than just a show; it’s a guide that helps children navigate the social intricacies they’ll encounter in school and beyond. Drawing inspiration from personality frameworks such as Myers-Briggs, the series features a diverse cast of characters representing the full spectrum of personalities found in classrooms and everyday life. From shy and quiet to extroverted and energetic, from creative and imaginative to book-loving and tech-savvy, EggBuds reflects the many ways children experience the world.
With its strong character system, clear educational undertone, and universal themes of belonging and identity, EggBuds is uniquely positioned as a licensable IP. It offers partners the opportunity to build across categories, from animation and publishing to toys and digital content, all anchored in a brand that resonates deeply with both children and parents.
EggBuds isn’t just entertainment. It’s a world where every child can see themselves, and learn to understand others, a true multi-faceted franchise with massive growth potential.

When Shelly discovers what she thinks is an alien telephone, Sunny wastes no time placing a very ambitious candy order, and Chuckles soon orders an enormous mountain of candy of his own. Just when everyone thinks the aliens have arrived, Yolko reveals the device is really an old-fashioned radio!
What follows is a funny, relatable adventure about sharing, selfishness and thinking about other people. Shelly realises that keeping the radio to herself wouldn’t be fair to her friends, and with Yolko’s help the group finds a simple solution: take turns.
The episode introduces selfishness in a way young children can easily understand. Instead of a lecture, Shelly discovers the meaning through a conversation with her friends and learns that sharing makes things more enjoyable for everyone. It encourages children to:
Sunny’s outrageous candy order, including “twenty hundred million cola bottles”, sets the tone, while Chuckles somehow makes his own order even more ridiculous.
The running “alien telephone” misunderstandings, Yolko’s sudden karate noises and Chuckles’ disappointment at finding no aliens or candy keep the comedy playful. A final joke about waiting “40 years” for candy gives preschoolers a silly ending they can easily enjoy.
At its heart, this is a funny adventure about friends, sharing, and learning that sometimes the best way to enjoy something is to let everyone have a turn.
[SCENE START: Wideshot: Daytime. A bright sunny day in the local playground. We see Sunny and Shelly. Shelly is holding a vintage radio. The camera zooms in on Shelly where we see her holding the vintage radio. This should be a full body shot.]
Look what I found!
What is it?
I have no idea. But it looks cool and it has some cool buttons. Here, do you want to try?
Absolutely!
[Sunny excitedly grabs the strange device from Shelly. She studies it closely, shrugs, and confidently presses one of the large buttons. The radio crackles to life.]
(Japanese voice speaks.)
[Both girls freeze. Their eyes grow wide as they stare at the mysterious device.]
Woah! Was that an alien?
I think so. Do you know what he said?
Something about candy, I think.
Ooooh! Candy! Wait... I know!
[Sunny grins, clears her throat dramatically, presses the button again, and holds the radio close to her face like a walkie-talkie.]
(Japanese voice responds.)
Hello, Mr. Alien! My name is Sunny, and I am here with my friend Shelly. We would like to order some candy from your spaceship!
Sunny... it's almost dinner time.
Shhh! Dinner schminner!
So, as I was saying, we'd like to order some candy from your alien spaceship. Can we get ten pink fizzle sticks, ten marshmallow frogs, and twenty hundred million cola bottles?
[Shelly's eyes get bigger and bigger as Sunny keeps adding more candy to the order.]
Sunny! I won't be able to eat all of that candy today. I will need two days... at least!
Shhh! I need to hear the aliens.
[Sunny dramatically presses the button again. Both children lean in so close that their noses are almost touching the radio.]
(Japanese voice speaks again.)
Huh?? What did he say?
I think he said he'll be here in six minutes.
[Suddenly, a loud crashing noise comes from behind the bushes. Leaves rustle violently, and heavy footsteps approach.]
AHHHH! IT'S THE ALIENS!!
[Both scream and dive behind a log, peeking over the top while clutching each other.]
Hey! What are you guys up to? What's that thing?
[Chuckles walks into view carrying a stick, looking completely confused by the panic.]
Chuckles!!
We thought you were the alien spaceship with our candy!
Candy? Alien spaceship? What??
Shelly found this alien telephone in the bush.
Yeah! And Sunny knew how to use it, so she asked the aliens to bring us some candy.
[Chuckles' face lights up with excitement.]
Candy!! Alriiiight! My favourite! Hey, can I ask them for candy too?
Here. I think it was this button for the candy.
[Sunny hands over the mysterious radio. Chuckles carefully holds it like it's the most important invention ever discovered.]
Got it.
[He presses the button. The radio crackles again.]
(Japanese voice speaks.)
Woah! Cool!
Oh, yes. Hello, Mr. Alien! I too would like some candy. Can I get six hundred buckets of milk teeth, one million and twenty hundred strawberry hearts... and one toffee banana. Thanks!
Now press the red button.
Okay.
[Chuckles dramatically slams the red button and waits proudly for a response.]
(Japanese voice replies.)
What did he say?
I think he said he'll send you a photo.
A photo? Okaaaay... Where does the photo come out? Is it here?
[Chuckles turns the radio upside down and shakes it gently while everyone watches, waiting for a picture to fall out.]
[Just then, the sound of energetic karate moves echoes from nearby.]
Hwuah! Huh! Hwi-yah!
[The children all jump in fright and huddle together behind Chuckles.]
AHHHH! The aliens are here!!
[Yolko steps out from behind the bushes, still practicing karate chops in the air.]
Guys! It's just me... Yolko.
Yolko! You scared us!
Yeah, I nearly—
Hey, Yolko! Check out this alien telephone that Shelly found in the bush.
Yeah! We used it to order candy from the alien spaceship!
What is taking them so long? That was like seventy hundred hours ago!
[Chuckles rubs his tummy dramatically. It growls loudly.]
My tummy is rumbling. I'm soooo hungry.
[Yolko examines the device carefully, turning it over in his hands. He suddenly smiles with recognition.]
Guys... this isn't an alien telephone. This is an old toy radio! My dad has the same one in his man cave.
[Sunny and Shelly stare blankly at Yolko.]
What's a radio?
What's a man cave?
[Chuckles slowly realizes what this means. His shoulders slump.]
Does this mean... no candy?
Ahhhh...
And no aliens...
[Sunny and Shelly throw their hands in the air dramatically.]
No candy and no aliens?? Ughhhhh!
Yeah. This is just a toy. See...
[Yolko presses one of the buttons. The radio crackles to life once more.]
(Japanese voice speaks.)
[Yolko listens carefully before translating.]
"Good morning, listeners! You're listening to Star Radio... the galaxy's hottest hits!"
My daddy said that before everyone had phones, people mostly listened to music on radios like this one.
Can you skip to Baby Shark?
[The others laugh.]
Sunny! Dinner is ready! Time to go!
You too, Shelly! Dinner is ready!
[Sunny and Shelly let out the biggest sigh imaginable.]
Awwww!
I was sooo looking forward to that candy.
Me too.
Me three.
[Yolko looks guilty for spoiling everyone's excitement. He suddenly brightens with an idea and starts searching through his backpack.]
Aww... I feel like I ruined the party.
Wait! I know!
[He pulls out a small unopened bag of candy and smiles proudly.]
I have some unopened candy in my bag. Here—you guys can have it.
Oooh, Yolko... you don't have to—
[Chuckles excitedly bounces up and down.]
Candy! Candy! Candy! Oh boy!!
[Just as Chuckles reaches for the candy, Shelly's mom walks into view with her hands on her hips.]
Is that candy?
[Everyone freezes. Chuckles slowly hides the candy behind his back.]
Ahhh... well...
Remember... weekends only.
[All four children groan dramatically.]
Uggghhhh!
Yeah! Now we need to wait forty years!
Forty years until we can eat our candy?! Uggghhh!
[The parents smile and shake their heads.]
Guys, come on... dinner time!
[Sunny, Shelly and Chuckles slowly begin walking away with exaggerated sad faces.]
Shelly! Wait!
Your radio!
[Shelly turns back and takes the toy radio.]
Oh! Sorry, I forgot.
I think it would be selfish for me to keep this.
What's selfish?
[Shelly smiles and explains while holding up the radio.]
Selfish means keeping something all for yourself instead of sharing it with your friends.
[Chuckles nods slowly as if he's learned something very important.]
Ahhhh...
Maybe you could take turns looking after it.
You can have it this week, then next week someone else can take it, and the week after that another person can have a turn.
[Shelly smiles excitedly.]
Amazing! Let's do it!
Shelly! I'm not going to call you again!
[Shelly quickly starts jogging toward home.]
Okay! Okay! Coming! Uggghhhh!
[She turns back and waves enthusiastically.]
See you at school tomorrow!
Bye, guys!
Bye!
Bye!
See you tomorrow!
[The friends wave goodbye as Shelly runs off. Sunny, Chuckles and Yolko head in different directions toward home while the toy radio gives one final cheerful crackle.]
(Cheerful sign-off in Japanese.)
[The children laugh as the screen fades to black.]
[SCENE START: Wideshot: Daytime. THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT. We see MR Egghead standing in front of an American style school bus. He is addressing Eggy, Eemo, Benedict, Vogue, Jock, Shelly, Yolko, and Chuckles who are fooling about playing excitedly.]
Ok, ok, let’s calm things down. Now, I know all of you are very excited about this trip to the zoo but we need to remember the rules I mentioned in class.
[Eggy waves his right hand in the air in an attempt to grab Mr. Eggheads attention]
Mr Egghead! Mr Egghead!
Go ahead, Eggy.
Rule number one, don’t feed the animals. Rule number two, don’t sit on the animals.
Very good.
[Eeemo waves her right hand in the air in an attempt to grab Mr. Eggheads attention]
Mr Egghead! Mr Egghead!
Go ahead, Eemo.
Don’t take the animals from the zoo.
Very good, EEMO. And the last rule?
[Eggy, Eemo, Benedict and Vogue look at each other confused]
Don’t draw on the animals' faces. And no lipstick! Got that, Vogue?
[Vogue applying lipstick to her lips]
I wouldn't use my favourite lipstick. But, I wish I had a little pet I could dress up and make fabulous.
Well, you can always ask your parents for a dog.
Or a cat!
Or yes, you could also ask them for a cat.
Or a Frog
Or…a frog. Good! Okay then, have fun and be careful! We'll meet back on the bus after lunch.
Enjoy!
[SCENE START: Wideshot: Daytime. A bright sunny day in the local zoo. We see Benedict, Eemo, Eggy, and Vogue. The camera zooms in on Eemo.]
Benedict, what’s your favourite animal?
I like elephants, they are smart and can remember everything. How about you?
[We see a mother elephant with a baby elephant. Both elephants lift their trunks and make a loud elephant trumpeting sound]
I like this bird because it looks grumpy, kind of like he is saying, “leave me alone!” How about you Vogue?
[We see an image of the very tall stork galloping about]
I would love a little monkey that I could style. I would make her so fashionable, a beautiful coat, a little monkey dress, and the most beautiful jewellery one could wear.
You mean like this one?
[We see little monkey, he is making a lot of loud chirping monkey noises and jumping around the trees next to Vogue, Eggy, Benedict, and Eemo]
Oh, what a pretty little thing. Hello darling, what’s your name?
[We see Vogue, inviting the monkey to come to her]
Come on, don’t be scared
[The monkey continues to make crazy monkey chirping sounds as he jumps up and down on the spot frantically]
A feisty little thing aren’t we. Wait, I have a banana here.
[Vogue takes a banana from her bag before we see her placing her bag on the ground]
Vogue, don’t forget Mr. Egghead’s rules. Rule number one, don’t feed the animals.
Oh, for goodness sake. OK, ok, I will eat the banana myself.
[Vogue peels the banana and starts eating it]
Hey guys, look at the size of this giraffe.
[Eggy, Eemo, Vogue, and Benedict begin walking over to the giraffe before we see Vogue run back to pick up her bag]
Wait, my bag!
[We see Vogue picking up her bag and zipping it shut]
Wow! This guy is taller than my Dad.
[We see the tall giraffe eating some leaves from a tall tree]
How tall is your dad?
[Benedict stands on his toes and raises his right hand as high as he can lift it to express how tall his dad actually is]
My dad is this tall!
[We see the kids looking shocked]
Then this giraffe must be taller than 10 of your dads!
Giraffes are my favourite. They can see over buses, see over trees, and reach the tallest leaves. They are amazing!
He must have a stretchy neck.
[We see the giraffe stretching it’s neck to eat some more leaves from a tall tree]
My mom says our neighbours have stretchy necks.
Woah! Cool! I would love to have a stretchy neck.
[Mr Egghead walks into the scene holding an elephant plush toy]
Ok, class. I hope you all had a wonderful trip, and more importantly remembered the rules. Did we?
Of course!
Zoo’s are cool!
Ok, last call for the bathroom before we get back on the bus. Does anyone need to go?
[We see Eggy, Vogue, Eemo, and Benedict shaking their heads as if to reply ‘no’]
Just me again then
[Fades to black]
[SCENE START: Wideshot: Daytime. We see the inside of a classroom. Eggy, Eemo, Benedict, Vogue, Jock, Shelly, Yolko, and Chuckles are seated in the class. The camera pans to Vogue.]
I’m exhausted!
[We see a shot of Eemo and Benedict in their seats yawning and looking sleepy]
I could fall asleep right here
[We hear a loud and random monkey chirping noise]
What was that?
[We see Mr Egghead standing at the front of the classroom behind his desk]
Okay guys, the trip is over, you can relax with the animal noises.
[We hear another loud and random monkey chirping noise]
Is that you Eggy?
Huh?! Not me.
[We hear another loud and random monkey chirping noise]
Guys, I’m not going to say it again. Enough with the monkey sounds.
Eemo, is that you?
Nope, not me!
[We hear another loud and random monkey chirping noise]
Okay, that’s it….Eggy, stand up!
I’m not making that noise
I need my earplugs. I am trying to read my Fashion book.
[We see the monkey jumping out of Vogue’s bag before the monkey starts jumping about the classroom knocking over test tubes and microscopes]
Leaping Lizards!
[We hear everyone in the classroom scream as we see the monkey jumping and swinging from the lights in a frantic manner]
Oh my! Vogue, please don’t tell me you took the monkey from the zoo.
The monkey? Who? Me?
[We see the Monkey continue to swing wildly throughout the classroom. His chirping sounds are getting louder and more frantic as he knocks a bunch of books from a shelf]
Did you not say you wanted your own monkey so that you could dress her up and do fashion shows with her?
[Benedict puts his index finger up as if to suggest a Eureka moment]
Aha! Now this makes sense.
Vogue, do you know how the monkey got here?
[The monkey jumps up onto Mr Eggheads shoulders and starts drumming on Mr Egghead’s head with his hands]
Hey! Stop that!!
[We see Vogue and Eggy sitting at their desks laughing hysterically]
This is not a laughing matter. We are not leaving this classroom until we find out who is responsible for taking this monkey.
[The Monkey tries to open the doors of the classroom as he swings from the doorknob]
Vogue, I am going to ask you one more time and I want you to tell the truth. Did you take the monkey?
No! I'd never do that!
He came out of your bag, so you must know something.
Maybe the monkey wanted your bananas.
Look!
[Eggy opens Vogue’s bag and there are three bananas inside]
The monkey must have gotten locked into your bag
[The monkey swoops down and grabs all three bananas while chirping loudly]
Hey! Come back here!
[The monkey starts throwing the bananas and MR Egghead and continues to chirp loudly]
Owwwww! That hurt!
[We see Mr Egghead nursing his head with his hand after being hit with a banana]
I think I know what happened
[We then see the scene (EXT. INSIDE THE ZOO / NEXT TO THE ELEPHANTS AREA – DAY) from earlier where Vogue places her bag on the ground to get the banana]
I put my bag on the ground to get a banana, for myself I might add.
[We then see the scene (EXT. INSIDE THE ZOO / NEXT TO THE ELEPHANTS AREA – DAY) from earlier, The monkey spots the bananas in Vogue's bag before the monkey crawls into the bag.]
The monkey must have crept into my bag without me noticing.
Guys! Look! Vogue is right! I caught it in my camera while taking a photo.
[We see a photo of Benedict and Eggy posing for the camera. To their side is Vogue eating a banana and the monkey climbing into Vogue’s bag]
Thank you EEMO. Oh, Vogue. I am so, so, sorry. I shouldn't have assumed you took him.
[Vogue takes a deep breath to let out her frustration]
That’s okay. I would have assumed it was me who had taken the monkey also. After all, he was in my bag.
[we see Mr Egghead take out his phone and makes a call]
Hello! Yes, this is Mr Egghead, math teacher at Eggsville High. We appear to have one of your monkeys in our classroom.
[We see EEMO and Benedict covering their mouths to prevent them from laughing]
Yes, it would appear the monkey got into one of the students' bags.
[There is silence as MR EGGHEAD nods his head repeatedly while listening to the other person speaking on the phone]
Oh, that would be great. No! We are not in a rush, we can wait.
[The monkey jumps up on Mr Eggheads shoulders and covers Mr Eggheads eyes with his hands. The monkey starts chirping loudly]
Arrgghhhh! Silly monkey!
[We see Mr Egghead walking around in circles as continues to speak on the phone while the monkey continues to sit on Mr Eggheads shoulders covering his eyes with his hand and chirping like crazy]
What a day!
[We see EGGY laughing hysterically]
What’s that? Sorry, no, I wasn’t referring to you as a silly monkey. What’s that? No, I was talking to the monkey, not you.
[We see Eggy and Vogue covering their eyes with the palms of their hands and shaking their heads in disapproval]
[Fade to black]
[SCENE START: Wideshot: Daytime. THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT. We see the monkey in a transport crate. He is being carried away by the zookeepers. Then we see Eemo, Vogue, Eggy and Benedict looking sad.]
Poor little monkey
He will be better off back in the zoo where he belongs.
It would be more fun if we could keep the monkey. Maybe Mr Egghead belongs in the monkey house!
[Everybody starts laughing]
[Fade to black]
[SCENE START: Wideshot: Morning. The inside of an elementary school classroom. We see Mr Egghead sitting and reading alone at his desk in the classroom.]
There’s something I am forgetting.
[We hear the sound of the crazy monkey chirping as Mr Egghead jumps for cover under his desk]
Not again!!
[Eggy walks into the classroom and lifts his wrist to show off his new animal watch. Eggy stands there and flicks through some sounds on his watch (Elephant, Tiger, etc.)]
Good morning Mr Egghead, I forgot to show you what I purchased at the zoo. It’s a watch that makes animal sounds.
EGGY! That’s enough monkey business.
[Eggy shrugs and takes a banana out of his pocket]
Banana, maybe?
[We then see both MR Egghead and Eggy sitting on Mr Eggheads desk. Mr Egghead is holding the banana. Eggy is wearing his animal watch.]
I learned an important lesson yesterday. Before we blame someone, we should always find out what really happened.
Yes! Always tell the truth—and don't jump to conclusions!
[We hear a chirping monkey sound coming from Eggy's watch]
...Eggy.
[Eggy quickly turns his watch off]
Sorry!
[Eggy and Mr Egghead burst into a fit of laughter]
[Fade to black]
[Mr Egghead stands in front of the class. He has written the following on the blackboard “THE EGGSVILLE HIGH TALENT SHOW!”]
OK, everyone calm down! I've got some very exciting news. Next Friday is our annual school talent show!
[The class erupts with excitement.]
Finally! A runway worthy of my talents!
I've been preparing for this my entire life.
Really? What have you been practising?
Sleeping. It's a very difficult skill to master.
[Chuckles immediately pretends to snore.]
I've calculated that if every act lasts two minutes, we can fit twelve acts into the show, assuming no technical delays.
Wonderful, Yolko. Now, who'd like to tell us what they'll be performing?
Me and Arty have formed a band and are doing an acoustic song.
Yes! We have named our band Rage Against the Egg Machine!
I'm doing a cheerleading routine! Pom-poms, jumps and big smiles!
And I'm doing a fashion catwalk. Fabulous outfits, dramatic poses and a grand finale. Obviously.
I'm doing stand-up comedy.
What about your jokes?
They're so good, I've already made myself laugh.
That's because you're your own biggest fan.
Finally, someone understands my genius.
[Sunny gives a little cheerleading pose.]
Give me an S! Give me an U! Give me an—
Sandwich?
Chuckles!
Sorry. I get hungry when people start spelling things.
Benedict and I are doing a rap about why school is cool. I've programmed a backing track with seventeen sound effects, three drum patterns and a synthesised school bell.
And I've got the lyrics! It's going to be educational AND catchy.
Nothing says catchy like homework.
[The class laughs.]
[Shelly and Eggy jump up together.]
We're doing magic tricks!
Prepare to witness the impossible!
And prepare to witness me saving the show when his tricks go wrong!
I'm a magician!
And I'm the assistant. Assistants are very important. Who do you think carries the rabbit?
[Everyone laughs.]
Excellent! And what about you, Jock?
[JOCK, who has been bouncing a football under his desk, stops.]
Me? I'm not doing anything.
Nothing at all?
I'm good at football. Not singing, dancing, acting or whatever else people do on a stage.
You could try a dramatic football pose.
I do that every time I score a goal.
I do that every time I find candy.
[Chuckles strikes a triumphant pose.]
Don't worry, Jock. We'll find something that suits you.
There isn't anything. I'm a sports kid, not a talent-show kid.
[Jock bounces his ball and looks away.]
[The hall has become a rehearsal space. A guitar, pom-poms, fashion accessories, a laptop, a magician's hat and several books are scattered around.]
Right, everyone. Let's see what you've been working on. Eemo and Arty, you're first!
[Eemo and Arty sit with their guitars and begin a gentle acoustic song. The music is lovely and calm.]
Sometimes it's good to be different...
[Sunny suddenly leaps into the background, practising cheerleading moves.]
FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT! SPARKLE! JUMP! SMILE!
[Eemo stops playing.]
Sunny, is your routine supposed to be louder than our guitars?
Sorry! I got carried away.
That's okay. At least we know you'll be heard from the back row.
That's the spirit! Give me a cheer!
Can we finish the song first?
Right. Quiet cheering!
[Sunny shakes her pom-poms silently. They make an unexpectedly loud rustling noise.]
Not that quiet, apparently.
Vogue, let's see your fashion segment!
[Vogue struts onto an imaginary catwalk, wearing oversized sunglasses, a sparkling jacket and a feather boa.]
Welcome to Vogue's Very Important Fashion Show! Today's collection is called Too Fabulous for the Classroom.
[She performs a dramatic turn, then strikes a pose.]
This look is perfect for school, parties and avoiding people who ask you to share your snacks.
Does it come with pockets for candy?
Chuckles, this is high fashion, not a picnic.
That's a shame!
[Vogue attempts a final spin but slips on a banana skin. She wobbles before Chuckles prevents her from falling]
Oh goodness me! Who left a banana skin there. This should be a catwalk not a catastrophe!
Whoops! That’s part of my gag.
[Next, CHUCKLES steps forward with a pretend microphone. He picks up the banana skin from the floor.]
Hello, everyone! Why did the banana go to the doctor?
[Silence.]
Because it wasn't peeling very well!
[He laughs at his own joke.]
Tough crowd. I'll be here all week.
Let's give Yolko and Benedict a turn.
[Yolko taps a button on her laptop. A beat starts playing, accompanied by an absurdly loud school bell.]
School is cool, come and see!
There's a world of things to learn with me!
Maths and science, facts galore!
Press the wrong button, hear that bell once more!
[The bell blasts again. Everyone covers their ears.]
Yolko, perhaps the bell could be a little less... bell-like?
Understood. Reducing bell volume by ninety per cent.
[Yolko presses a button. The sound becomes a tiny, squeaky ding.]
I think the bell needs a doctor.
Shelly and Eggy, your turn!
[Shelly stands beside a covered box while Eggy holds a magician's wand.]
For my first trick, I shall make Shelly disappear!
Before you start, can you make those jeans disappear? Otherwise, I may need to call the fashion police..
Very funny.
[Eggy throws a cape over Shelly. When he pulls it away, she's still standing there, but Eggy's hat has somehow ended up on her head.]
Ta-da! I've made the magician disappear!
I'm right here!
This act needs some work
[Everyone laughs.]
[Jock watches the rehearsals, bouncing his football.]
I don't know how you all do it.
Do what?
Stand up in front of everyone and make it look easy. I can play football all day, but this stuff? I'd rather face a football player twice my size.
You could try a cheerleading routine with me!
I'd rather face two footballers.
You could always wear a fabulous costume.
I don't think sequins are going to help me score a touchdown.
You'd be surprised.
[The children gather around JOCK.]
What if we help you find something you enjoy doing?
I already know what I enjoy doing. Football!
I could create a computer simulation of a football match.
But I'd just be watching a screen.
You could juggle footballs!
I can barely juggle one.
[Chuckles tries juggling three balls. They bounce off his head, his shoulder and his foot.]
See? It's harder than it looks!
What about a football-themed cheerleading routine?
Definitely not.
[Sunny demonstrates a dramatic cheerleading jump.]
Give me a J! Give me an O! Give me a C! Give me a K!
Give me a cheeseburger!
Chuckles!
Sorry. It's my reflex.
[Jock shakes his head, still looking uncertain.]
I'm not a performer. I don't want everyone laughing at me.
[The children go quiet.]
You know, I get that. Sometimes people think that because I like my music, I should want to sing loudly in front of everyone. But I like playing my own way.
But you're actually good at it.
So are you at football.
That's different.
Is it? When you score, everyone cheers. When you play with your team, you help each other. That's a performance, too. It's just on a pitch.
I never thought about it like that.
And you don't have to do what we do. Your act should be something that feels like you.
But what can I do on a stage that involves football?
[Everyone thinks.]
I could project a football pitch onto the wall.
I could design a special football outfit for your entrance!
I can be the football!
You're not going to be a football, Chuckles!
Cheerleader….maybe?
[They all laugh, but Jock still looks uncertain.]
Let's think about what you actually love about football. What gets you excited?
The goals. The noise. The chants when the whole crowd sings together. That feeling when your team scores and everyone goes absolutely wild!
[Jock suddenly jumps up and pumps his fist.]
EGGSVILLE! EGGSVILLE! WE GOT THE SKILL! WE’RE HERE TO THRILL!
[His shout echoes around the hall.]
[Everyone stares at him.]
I think he just woke up the footballs.
Wait a minute. That's it!
What if your act is a football crowd? You could lead everyone in your favourite chants.
Really?
And you could act out some amazing goals!
I can create stadium sound effects and a scoreboard!
And we can help write the chants so everyone can join in!
I can design a spectacular football outfit. A little sporty, a little stylish, completely fabulous.
And I can be the referee!
You? A referee?
Of course. I've already got a whistle!
[CHUCKLES blows a whistle. It produces a sad little squeak.]
It needs more training.
I can help with the crowd!
Me too! I'll make a football appear from my hat!
[He reaches into his hat and pulls out a rubber chicken.]
That's... not right.
Congratulations. You've invented chicken football.
[The children laugh. Jock starts to smile.]
You'd all really help me?
Of course. We're a team, aren't we?
Even though you all have your own acts to practise?
That's what teamwork means. We can help each other.
I'll adjust my rehearsal schedule to allocate collaborative practice time.
In English, please, Yolko.
I'll make time for you.
Thank goodness. I thought I'd need a calculator.
[We see the Eggbuds rehearsing together. Eemo works on a guitar riff for Jock's entrance. Yolko builds a scoreboard from cardboard and tests sound effects. Benedict helps write chants. Vogue designs Jock's entrance outfit. Sunny teaches everyone a simple crowd cheer. Shelly and Eggy attempt a magic trick involving a football, but the ball rolls out of the hat and hits Chuckles gently on the bottom.]
I've been struck by the beautiful game!
[Jock laughs, then begins leading the others in a chant.]
WHO ARE WE?
EGGSVILLE HIGH!
WHAT DO WE DO?
WE PLAY WITH PRIDE!
Eat all the pies!
That's not the chant!
It rhymes!
[They all laugh and continue practising.]
[The hall is packed with children, teachers and parents. A homemade banner reads “WELCOME TO OUR TALENT SHOW!” Mr Egghead steps onto the stage.]
Welcome, everyone! Today we'll see music, magic, comedy, cheerleading, fashion, and perhaps a few surprises. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and support one another!
[Chuckles peeks out from behind the curtain.]
Does supporting one another include supporting my comedy career?
Especially if you tell a good joke.
I'll get back to you.
[Eemo and Arty sit with their guitars and play a sweet, gentle song.]
Different sounds and different ways,
We can all shine on our special days...
[The audience applauds.]
[Sunny bursts onto the stage with pom-poms.]
Give me an S! Give me a P! Give me an A! Give me an R! Give me a K!
Does that spell sandwich?
No, Chuckles! It spells SPARK!
Oh. I was getting hungry.
[Sunny performs an energetic routine, complete with jumps, spins and a final star pose.]
Let's hear it for everyone giving their best!
[The audience cheers.]
[The lights dim. A dramatic beat starts playing. Vogue struts onto the stage wearing oversized sunglasses and a fabulous outfit.]
Welcome to Vogue's Very Important Fashion Show! Today's collection is called Too Fabulous for the Classroom.
[She walks down the catwalk, strikes a pose and spins around.]
This look is perfect for school, parties and avoiding people who ask you to share your snacks.
[Chuckles gasps.]
Not share snacks? That's not fashion. That's a crime!
[Vogue reveals a second outfit with a dramatic jacket and feather boa.]
And now, my grand finale!
[She spins. The feather boa flies off and lands around Mr Egghead's neck.]
Oh! Am I modelling now?
Darling, you're welcome.
[The audience laughs and applauds.]
Why did the teacher wear sunglasses?
[He pauses dramatically.]
Because the class was so bright!
[The audience laughs.]
And why did the pencil get into trouble?
[Another pause.]
It was pointless!
[Chuckles bows, and then jumps up to celebrate his performance. One of his shoes flies off and lands beside Mr Egghead.]
My shoe’s career is taking off faster than mine.
[The audience laughs even louder.]
[The beat starts. Yolko's sound effects work perfectly this time.]
School is cool, come and see!
Learning together, you and me!
Books and numbers, science too,
There's something fun for me and you! ♪
Maths and science, facts galore!
Every day we learn much more!
Press the right button, hear the beat!
School is cool and knowledge is sweet!
[A tiny school bell rings at the end. The audience cheers.]
We did it!
And there were zero technical errors.
[The laptop makes a strange farting noise.]
Almost zero.
[Eggy stands beside a covered box. Shelly waves to the audience.]
For my next trick, I shall make this football disappear!
And for my next trick, I'll make the magician nervous!
[Eggy covers the ball, waves his wand and pulls away the cloth. The ball is gone.]
[The audience gasps.]
Ta-da!
[SHELLY opens her bag and pulls out the ball.]
He made it disappear from the box. I made it appear in my handbag. You're welcome!
That wasn't part of the trick!
It is now.
[The audience laughs and applauds.]
[Backstage, Jock peeks through the curtain. He looks nervous.]
They're all so good. What if nobody likes my act?
[Eemo stands beside him.]
Remember, you don't need to be like anyone else. Just show them what you love.
Right. Football. Chants. Touchdowns. I can do this.
And we'll be right there with you.
[Mr Egghead announces the final act.]
And now, please welcome Jock and his very special football spectacular!
[The lights dim. A stadium sound effect rumbles through the speakers. Yolko's cardboard scoreboard lights up with the words “IT'S MATCH DAY!”]
[Jock runs onto the stage, full of energy, wearing his football shirt and a stylish jacket designed by Vogue. He raises his arms like a captain entering a stadium.]
ARE YOU READY?!
[The audience cheers.]
I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
[The audience cheers louder.]
THAT'S MORE LIKE IT! COME ON, EGGSVILLE HIGH!
[Eemo strums a lively guitar riff. Benedict and Yolko lead the chant while Sunny and Shelly perform coordinated crowd cheers. Vogue and Eggy join in with dramatic goal celebrations.]
WHO ARE WE?
EGGSVILLE HIGH!
WHAT DO WE DO?
WE PLAY WITH PRIDE!
[Jock runs with an imaginary football across the stage, dodges an imaginary defender and takes a dramatic kick. We see Chuckles at the side of the stage eating a pie]
HE SHOOTS...
[He kicks a soft foam football into a little goal at the side of the stage.]
HE SCORES!
[The crowd goes wild. Yolko triggers a stadium cheer. A cardboard scoreboard flips to “3-0”]
[Jock celebrates with an energetic slide, stops just before the edge of the stage and pumps both fists in the air.]
THAT'S HOW WE DO IT!
[Chuckles takes one last bite of the pie and then runs onto the stage dressed as a referee.]
Hang on! I need to check that goal!
[He examines the goal, looks at the ball and nods seriously.]
After a very careful inspection... I can confirm that the ball is oval!
Chuckles!!
What? I'm a very thorough referee!
[The audience roars with laughter.]
[Jock leads one final chant, and everyone joins in. The performance ends with everyone raising their arms in a giant team celebration.]
[Thunderous applause.]
What a fantastic performance!
[Jock looks genuinely amazed by the response.]
They actually liked it!
Of course they did.
You showed them what makes you special.
And you all helped me do it. I couldn't have done this without you.
Naturally. Every winning performance needs a little sparkle.
And excellent sound engineering.
And a few good rhymes!
And a referee who knows absolutely nothing about football!
At least you're honest.
It's one of my many talents.
[Mr Egghead returns to the stage holding an envelope.]
And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. The winner of this year's school talent show is...
[He opens the envelope slowly.]
JOCK!
[The children cheer. Jock looks stunned.]
Me? But I'm not even a proper performer!
You shared something you love, filled the room with energy, and brought everyone together. That's what made your performance so special.
[Jock accepts his prize, beaming.]
Thanks, Mr Egghead. And thanks, everyone. I thought I didn't belong in a talent show. But I guess everybody has something they can share.
Exactly, Jock. We're all different, and that's what makes us such a wonderful team.
Different talents, one team.
And when we help each other, we can do amazing things!
And sometimes we can do amazing things while wearing a referee's shirt!
Even when you’re wearing it inside out!
[The audience laughs.]
At least you look fabulous wearing it.
Thank you. My Momma said it’s what’s inside that counts.
[The Eggbuds burst into laughter. Jock holds up his prize while the whole group gathers for a final team pose.]
EVERYONE'S GOT TALENT!
[We see all Eggbuds posing for a picture as Chuckles adjusts the cardboard scoreboard to “SCHOOL IS COOL!”. Fade to black.]
[Eggy's living room is decorated with pumpkins, paper bats and cobwebs. The kids are gathered with their parents, all dressed in their Halloween costumes. A skeleton hangs from the ceiling and swings gently every time the door opens.]
[EGGY is dressed as a superhero. SHELLY is a witch, SUNNY is a fairy, JOCK is a terrifying monster, CHUCKLES is a walking pumpkin, Eemo is a vampire,Vogue is a zombie model, Yolko is a futuristic robot, Benedict is a zombie teacher, and Arty is dressed as a bank robber.]
[SCRAMBULLY stands proudly in the middle of the room, dressed as a ghost in a large white sheet. Two holes have been cut out for his eyes. His shiny, light-up trainers flash red, blue and green.]
Welcome to our Halloween gathering! Tonight, we're going trick or treating together. But before we head out, there are a few important rules.
Do they involve eating all the sweets before we get home?
No, Chuckles
I thought I'd check. I like to be prepared.
[The parents chuckle.]
First, we stick together. Nobody wanders off alone, and we stay with our grown-ups.
And we cross roads carefully, with an adult.
Exactly! Second, we only visit houses where trick or treating is welcome. We wait patiently, say "trick or treat," and always remember to say thank you.
Even if someone gives us a tiny sweet?
Especially then! We never demand more, take extra sweets without permission, or go into strangers' homes.
And if anyone tries to scare me, I'll scare them back!
[Jock flexes his muscles. His monster mask slips sideways, leaving one eye looking out through a nostril.]
That's terrifying, Jock. Especially for your nose.
[Jock adjusts his mask.]
Finally, remember that Halloween is about having fun together. We should never frighten anyone who doesn't want to be frightened.
Don't worry! I know exactly how to get the most out of Halloween.
[He gives his candy bucket a suspicious little shake.]
The most out of Halloween?
I mean... the most out of the Halloween spirit!
[His trainers flash brightly.]
Wow! Those shoes are amazing!
Special edition! You can't get them just anywhere.
[He poses dramatically. His sheet catches on a lampshade, leaving him standing with his arms outstretched.]
The ghost has been captured!
[Everyone laughs as Scrambully frees himself.]
Right, everyone! Costumes ready, buckets ready, grown-ups ready?
Ready!
TRICK OR TREAT!
[The group moves along the pavement with their parents, visiting welcoming houses. Pumpkins glow in windows, and friendly decorations line the gardens.]
Trick or treat! Oh, look at all these wonderful costumes!
[The kids hold out their buckets.]
Trick or treat!
[The neighbour gives each child a few sweets.]
Thank you!
Happy Halloween!
[The group moves on. Scrambully, however, is already racing ahead to the next house.]
Trick or treat!
[The next neighbour drops a handful of sweets into his bucket.]
Thank you very much!
[He hurries to another house, then another. Each time, he glances around to check whether anyone is watching.]
[Back with the others, Shelly peers into her bucket, then looks at Sunny's.]
Sunny, how much candy have you got?
About the same as you. Why?
[Shelly points down the street. Scrambully's bucket is practically overflowing.]
Look at Scrambully's!
How has he got so much? We've all been going to the same houses!
Maybe he's found a secret candy shop.
Or maybe he's got a secret candy-growing machine!
Sunny, candy doesn't grow on machines.
Well, it doesn't grow on trees either!
[They both look at Scrambully, who is already halfway to the next house.]
Something's not right.
Detective Shelly and Detective Sunny are on the case!
[Sunny pulls a tiny magnifying glass from her costume. She looks through it backwards.]
Hmm. Everything looks very far away.
That's because you're looking through the wrong end!
[They exchange a determined look and follow the group.]
[The group reaches a corner. Scrambully disappears behind a tall garden hedge while the others stop to admire a giant inflatable pumpkin.]
That pumpkin is bigger than my house!
It's bigger than Jock's head.
Nothing is bigger than my head!
Your monster mask is certainly trying.
[Everyone laughs.]
[Meanwhile, Shelly and Sunny notice a ghost coming out from behind the hedge. The ghost waves to a neighbour and hurries down the pavement.]
There he is!
Who?
The ghost! The one with the giant bucket!
Wait a minute. Look at his shoes!
[The ghost's trainers flash red, blue and green.]
Those are Scrambully's special trainers!
Maybe there are two pairs?
[The ghost disappears around a corner. A moment later, a pirate emerges from behind a different garden bush.]
[The pirate has a black eye patch, a fake moustache, a white sheet wrapped around his waist and the exact same light-up trainers.]
A pirate now?!
And the same shoes!
Maybe all the ghosts and pirates go to the same shoe shop.
Sunny!
Right. Sorry. Detective work.
[The pirate approaches another house.]
Arrr! Trick or treat, matey!
[A neighbour drops sweets into his bucket.]
Much obliged!
[He marches off. Shelly and Sunny follow at a safe distance, keeping to the pavement and staying near the group.]
Ghost, pirate... what's next? A cowboy?
[They peek around a hedge. The pirate quickly ducks behind it.]
[There is a rustle, a shuffle, and a muffled "Oof!"]
[A superhero leaps out from the other side, wearing the white sheet as a cape. The same trainers flash underneath.]
Fear not, citizens! Captain Candy is here!
CAPTAIN CANDY?!
That's it! We've got him!
[The superhero races towards another house.]
He's changing costumes faster than Jock changes his mind!
We need to catch him changing. Then we'll know for sure.
[They watch as the superhero reaches a garden bush, checks that nobody is looking, and slips behind it.]
[A few seconds later, a ghost emerges again.]
Aha!
We knew it!
[They hurry towards the ghost.]
[Shelly and Sunny approach the ghost, who is counting sweets in his bucket.]
Scrambully!
[Scrambully freezes.]
Scram-who? I'm a ghost. Boo!
Nice try. We saw your trainers!
[Scrambully looks down at his flashing shoes.]
These? Lots of people have trainers.
Not ones that flash red, blue and green in exactly the same pattern!
We saw the ghost, the pirate and the superhero. They were all you!
[Scrambully pulls the sheet tighter around himself.]
Keep your voices down!
You’ve been visiting the same houses in different costumes to get extra candy!
So what if I have? It’s not hurting anybody.
It’s unfair! Everyone else is getting one turn.
And you won’t get any more if you tell everyone what I’ve been doing.
You can’t scare us into keeping quiet.
I’m not trying to scare you. I’m warning you. Nobody likes a tell-tale!
[He turns and marches off, his trainers flashing as he goes.]
[Sunny watches him disappear.]
Well, that went terribly.
He isn’t going to listen to us.
Then we need someone he won’t try to push around.
[They look at each other.]
JOCK!
[Shelly and Sunny find Jock walking with the group. They pull him aside and explain everything.]
So let me get this straight. Scrambully is pretending to be three different people to get more sweets?
Exactly.
And when we caught him, he told us to keep quiet.
[Jock’s monster mask slowly turns towards the camera.]
Oh, he did, did he?
Jock, we’re not asking you to hurt him. We just need him to stop.
Don’t worry. I’ll give him a fright he’ll never forget!
[Jock takes off at a run.]
Jock! Wait!
Oh, dear.
[Jock races ahead to his own house, where his parents are waiting. He rushes inside.]
Emergency costume change!
[His parents stare as he disappears into his room.]
But you already have a costume!
NOT SCARY ENOUGH!
[Moments later, Jock reappears dressed as an enormous, terrifying monster. His costume has giant claws, wild hair and glowing eyes.]
[He creeps out into the street and hides behind a large garden decoration, waiting for the others to catch up.]
[Scrambully, still dressed as a ghost, has raced ahead again. His bucket is so full that sweets keep bouncing out.]
One more house, then I’ll count my winnings!
[He stops near Jock’s hiding place.]
Hmm. I don’t remember that decoration being there.
[Jock slowly rises behind him.]
GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
AAAAAAAAHHHHH!
[Scrambully leaps into the air. His bucket flies upwards, sending sweets bouncing across the lawn.]
GOTCHA!
[Jock grabs Scrambully by the ankles and, with a controlled theatrical flourish, turns him upside down on the lawn.]
PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOWN!
[The white ghost sheet slips over Scrambully’s head. The pirate’s eye patch falls off. The fake moustache lands on his forehead. His superhero cape flutters onto the grass.]
[The rest of the group arrives just in time to see the whole costume collection scattered around Scrambully.]
[Everyone stares in astonishment.]
I KNEW IT!
I KNEW IT!
I knew it too!
Really, Chuckles?
No. But I wanted to be included.
[Jock puts Scrambully back on his feet. Scrambully straightens his clothes, looking deeply embarrassed.]
Well, well. Looks like our ghost has been unmasked!
[Everyone laughs. Scrambully looks at the scattered sweets and costumes.]
[Scrambully kneels down and begins collecting the sweets that have spilled onto the lawn. The others help gather them, while the parents keep everyone safely together.]
Scrambully, do you want to explain what’s been going on?
[Scrambully looks at the ghost sheet, pirate patch and fake moustache.]
I wanted more candy than everyone else. So I kept changing costumes and visiting the same houses.
But we were all following the rules.
Halloween is supposed to be fun for everyone, not just you.
I know. I got greedy. And when you found out, I tried to scare you into keeping quiet.
[He looks at Shelly and Sunny.]
I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. And I shouldn’t have been so greedy.
Thank you for saying sorry.
We forgive you.
I’ve got loads of sweets. Would you like me to share them with everyone?
That’s a kind offer, Scrambully. But what matters most is that you’ve understood why what you did was wrong.
We don’t need your extra candy. We just want you to be fair.
And we’d rather have fun together than compete over who gets the most.
Really? You’re not angry with me?
We’re glad you told the truth.
And next time, just come trick or treating with us. You don’t need three costumes to have a good time.
Although, I have to admit, the moustache was a nice touch.
[Jock picks up the fake moustache and sticks it above his own mouth. It immediately falls off.]
Hmm. Maybe I’m not a pirate after all.
You could be a very hairy ghost!
[Everyone laughs.]
[Scrambully gathers his costumes and puts the ghost sheet back on properly.]
From now on, one costume, one bucket, and one fair share of Halloween.
That’s the spirit!
Speaking of spirits, I’ve got a question. If nobody wants Scrambully’s extra candy…
[He holds out both hands and grins.]
…I’ll take it!
[Everyone bursts into laughter.]
[The group laughs as they continue down the street together, staying with their parents and wishing their neighbours a happy Halloween.]
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
[Scrambully walks alongside Shelly and Sunny, his trainers flashing happily. This time, he didn't race ahead.]
[A colourful market stall is set up outside Vogue's house. Designer shoes, boots, fur coats, hats, jewellery and accessories are displayed with immaculate precision.]
[A huge sign reads: VOGUE'S FABULOUS FASHION SALE!]
[Vogue stands proudly behind the stall, wearing designer sunglasses and holding a megaphone.]
Step right up, darlings! Fabulous fashion! Exclusive accessories! The latest looks from the world's finest collections!
[A car slows down. The driver rolls down the window and looks at a price tag.]
Three hundred dollars for a hat?!
[The window rolls up. The car drives off.]
[Another car stops. The driver examines a pair of boots.]
I'll keep walking, thanks!
[The car speeds away.]
[Vogue lowers her megaphone.]
Honestly! Some people wouldn't recognise real fashion if it walked up and introduced itself!
[Vogue opens a fashion magazine next to her. She has already highlighted a new handbag with a red pen, beside that she has scribbled ‘MINE!!’]
And this handbag arrives next weekend. It is the handbag of my dreams! All I need is a little extra money.
[Eemo cycles up and brakes beside the stall.]
Whoa! What's all this?
My fabulous pop-up fashion boutique, darling! I'm raising money for a very special designer handbag.
Ooh! Can I have a look?
Of course! Go wild!
[Eemo browses the rails, pulling out a few shirts.]
Oh, this is lovely! And I really like this purple scarf. Can you hold it for me, Vogue?
[She hands Vogue the scarf and continues browsing. She picks out several dresses and a pendant.]
[Vogue looks delighted.]
Excellent choices, darling! You clearly have an eye for quality.
[Eemo finally returns with her armful of clothes.]
Right! Let's see. The dresses, the scarf, the pendant... That'll be eight hundred and ten dollars, please!
[Eemo freezes.]
Eight hundred and TEN?!
[She nearly chokes on the candy she has been munching.]
I don't think I have that kind of money, Vogue. Besides, how much is that handbag you're saving for?
[Vogue suddenly becomes very interested in straightening a jacket.]
Well, how much do you have, darling?
[Eemo empties her purse onto the table.]
Two... and three is five... five and five is ten... two more makes twelve... plus fifty cents... and maybe these?
[She adds up her coins.]
Twelve dollars and fifty cents... and a packet of gummies.
[Vogue slowly begins putting the clothes back on the rack.]
Perhaps you should open a market stall of your own, darling. Then you could save up to shop here!
I think your prices might be a little high, Vogue. Don't you?
[Chuckles arrives on his bike, eyeing the stall.]
Morning, guys! Is this a jumble sale?
[Vogue gasps.]
This is NOT junk, darling! This is the Winter '25 and Summer '26 collection!
[Chuckles rubs his eyes.]
Yup. Eyes still working.
[He picks up an enormous ladies' hat and puts it on his head. It nearly covers his entire face.]
Careful with that one!
I know, I know!
[He struts along the pavement like a supermodel, swinging his hips and striking poses.]
[Eemo doubles over laughing.]
I call this look... Lost Property Chic!
This is serious business, not a clown store!
Okay, cranky pants! No need to be on my case. The customer is always right, you know.
Well, I want paying customers, not time-wasters!
Fine! I'll take it!
[He finds the price tag.]
Two dollars and fifty cents! Now THAT'S a bargain!
[Vogue snatches the tag.]
Oh! That is actually two hundred and fifty dollars, darling.
[Chuckles coughs in disbelief.]
TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY?! For this thing?
[He looks at the hat, then at Vogue.]
Does it come with a house?
It comes with style!
Then I'm afraid I'm out of style!
[He removes the hat.]
Eemo, shall we go to the charity shop? We could have loads of fun there for a fraction of the price!
Absolutely!
[Vogue hurriedly grabs a white fur jacket.]
Wait! How about this beautiful jacket from the Delmonte Collection? Only one hundred and fifty dollars!
[Chuckles and Eemo exchange a look.]
[Vogue holds up a pair of blue jeans.]
And these jeans would look fabulous on you, Eemo! Paris Fashion Week collection. Only one hundred dollars!
Thanks, but no thanks. I don't have that kind of money.
[She gets back on her bike.]
Good luck with your pop-up shop, Vogue!
[Chuckles and Eemo cycle away together.]
[Vogue watches them leave. Her shoulders slump. A tiny tear rolls down beneath her designer sunglasses.]
Nobody understands fashion...
[Shelly's mom arrives, carrying her shopping bag.]
Good morning, Vogue! I saw your poster, so I thought I'd come and support you.
[Vogue instantly perks up.]
Oh, darling! Finally! A customer who appreciates style!
Where shall I start?
Anywhere! Every piece has a story!
[Shelly's mom picks up a coat.]
That is from a very exclusive collection. A true statement piece!
[She checks the price tag and raises her eyebrows.]
[She picks up a handbag.]
Imported, limited edition, absolutely exquisite!
[Shelly's mom checks the price and swallows nervously.]
[Vogue follows her around the stall, narrating the history of every item.]
And these boots were inspired by a little boutique I visited in Paris...
They're lovely, Vogue.
[She checks the price.]
Very... lovely.
[After ten minutes, Vogue is practically bouncing with anticipation.]
So, darling! Anything tickling your fancy?
[Shelly's mom gently takes Vogue's hand and sits her down.]
Vogue, can I be honest with you?
Of course, darling. I always appreciate honesty, provided it's well dressed.
Your collection is beautiful. You've clearly put a lot of work into this. But these prices are much higher than most people around here can afford.
[Vogue's smile fades.]
It doesn't mean they don't like your clothes. They just need something that fits their budget.
But these are wonderful pieces! People should want them!
They do, Vogue. But wanting something and being able to afford it are two different things.
[Vogue looks down at her perfectly polished shoes.]
Perhaps the Eggs of Eggsville simply have no fashion sense.
I don't think that's the problem, darling.
[Vogue sighs and begins packing everything away.]
Never mind. I'll just have to accept that the world isn't ready for my level of glamour.
[Shelly's mom gives her a sympathetic smile.]
[Shelly arrives and spots Vogue packing up her stall.]
Vogue? What's wrong? Why are you packing up already?
[Vogue points towards Shelly's mom.]
Ask your Mom.
[Shelly's mom explains what happened.]
Oh, Vogue. You poor thing!
I worked so hard on this stall! All I want is the St Germain handbag. What am I going to do now?
[Just then, Chuckles and Eemo return with bags from the charity shop in the baskets of their bikes.]
[Chuckles is wearing an enormous sombrero, flamingo-shaped glasses and a giant green feather boa. Eemo has found a colourful jacket and a pair of ridiculous oversized boots.]
[Chuckles strikes a dramatic pose.]
Well, Vogue? Be honest. Do you think I could make it in Paris?
[He struts down the pavement, turns, and blows a kiss to an imaginary audience.]
Bonjour, fashion world!
[The sombrero slips over his eyes. He walks straight into the side of the stall.]
[Vogue tries not to laugh. She fails.]
My goodness! What on earth are you wearing?
Fashion, darling! Apparently, I have loads of it!
We had so much fun at the charity shop. And we got all this for hardly anything!
[She looks at Vogue's packed boxes.]
How's your shop going? Did you make enough for your handbag?
[Shelly and her mom exchange an awkward glance.]
Nada! Zilch! Zero!
Oh, Vogue. What can we do?
[Everyone scratches their heads.]
A raffle! Sell tickets, and the winner gets one of your outfits!
That's a good idea, but not everyone will want to enter. Especially if the prize is a pink shawl they might never wear.
[She holds up the shawl.]
Tragic, but true, darling.
[More head-scratching.]
[Suddenly, Shelly's eyes light up.]
WAIT! I know!
[Everyone turns to her.]
We need to relocate!
Relocate? Darling, that sounds exhausting.
We could move your stall to Rich Hill Drive!
Rich Hill Drive? The place with the enormous houses?
Exactly! People there have more money to spend, and they love fashion!
And with me modelling, they'll never know what hit them!
I'm not sure I want to know what hit them.
We'll help you pack, set everything up, and even be your real-life mannequins!
I'm in!
Me too! I've always wanted a career where I can wear ridiculous clothes and get paid for it!
And I'll help with the customers.
[Vogue looks around at her friends.]
You'd all do that for me?
Of course! That's what friends are for!
[Vogue stands up, brushes herself off and raises her chin.]
Then let's get fabulous!
[The team has transformed the stall. The clothes are beautifully arranged, the price tags are clear, and a new sign reads:]
[VOGUE'S FABULOUS POP-UP — SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR EVERY STYLE!]
[Shelly and Eemo stand like mannequins. Chuckles wears a stylish hat, some expenside sunglasses, and a Cashmere scarf, posing beside the stall.]
Remember, darling. Elegant poses. Sophisticated smiles.
[Chuckles freezes with one leg raised and both arms stretched out.]
Like this?
You look as though you've forgotten how legs work.
That's my signature pose!
[The first customer approaches: a well-dressed woman.]
What a lovely stall! Who's modelling the accessories?
[Chuckles steps forward.]
I am! Would you like to see my collection?
[He spins. The Cashmere scarf flies over his head and lands around his face.]
Ta-da!
[The customer laughs.]
You're hilarious! And I love that scarf! I’ll take it!
A wonderful choice, darling!
[Chuckles waves goodbye to the scarf.]
Farewell, my woolen friend. We had a good run.
[The next customer approaches Eemo, who is standing perfectly still in a fashionable jacket.]
Excuse me, are you a real mannequin?
[Eemo doesn't move.]
[The customer waves a hand in front of her face.]
[Eemo suddenly blinks.]
Sorry! I nearly fell asleep standing up!
[The customer laughs and picks out the jacket.]
I'll take it!
Excellent taste, darling!
[A third customer examines a gold bracelet]
Do you think this would fit me?
[Vogue checks her wrist]
Absolutely! Shelly, darling, could you help?
[Shelly springs into action, taking the bracelet out of its box.]
[The customer tries it on and smiles.]
Perfect! I'll take it!
[Shelly gives a little celebratory superhero pose.]
Another fashion emergency solved!
SuperVogue to the rescue!
[A fourth customer approaches Chuckles, who is now wearing an oversized fur coat from the original stall.]
That's a magnificent coat!
Thank you! It makes me feel like a bear, or maybe a fox, or maybe a cartoon villain!
[The customer laughs.]
I'll take it! I always wanted to be a cartoon character.
[Chuckles looks at Vogue in shock.]
Someone actually wants this thing?!
Darling, don't question a sale!
[She wraps the coat carefully and hands it over.]
[The stall is buzzing. Shelly's mom helps customers, Eemo models accessories, Shelly fetches sizes, and Chuckles keeps everyone laughing.]
[Vogue rings up sale after sale.]
A jacket, two hats, a pair of boots, three scarves... darling, this is wonderful!
[She counts the money and gasps.]
I can't believe it! We're actually doing it!
[As the afternoon draws to a close, Vogue counts the day's earnings.]
One thousand... two thousand... three thousand...
[She counts again, just to be sure.]
We did it! I've made enough for my designer handbag!
[Everyone cheers.]
We knew you could do it!
See what happens when we work together?
I couldn't have done it without you. You all helped me so much, and I want to share the money with everyone!
[She begins dividing the earnings into little piles.]
Really? How generous!
[Vogue holds out a pile to each of them.]
Oh, Vogue, that's very kind, but we were happy to help.
Besides, the handbag was your dream!
You earned it, Vogue. Keep the money!
[Chuckles reluctantly pushes his pile back.]
I suppose I can accept payment in applause.
[He bows dramatically. Everyone applauds.]
You're all simply fabulous! And….if you won’t accept cash, maybe you’ll accept Ice-Cream, what do y’all say? My treat!
Can I scream?
You can
ICE CREAM!!! WOO HOO!!!
[Shelly's mom smiles.]
You had a wonderful collection, Vogue. You just needed to find the right customers. And when something didn't work, your friends helped you find another way.
That's teamwork! We shared ideas, solved a problem and helped our friend reach her goal!
And I learned something too, darling. Fashion isn't just about looking fabulous. It's also about understanding what people need.
And apparently, it's about wearing a hat so enormous you can't see where you're going!
[He puts the oversized ladies hat he had tried on earlier this morning back on. It drops over his face.]
Help! I've lost my model!
[Everyone laughs.]
[Vogue looks at the hat, then at Chuckles.]
You know what, darling? You can keep it.
[Chuckles lifts the hat and beams.]
Really?!
Consider it a thank-you gift. It suits you perfectly.
Excellent! I've always wanted to be a fashion icon!
[He struts away, immediately bumps into a clothes rack, and turns around.]
I meant a fashionable icon, not a walking disaster!
[The others laugh as Vogue gathers her things, smiling happily.]
When we work together, listen to each other and think of new solutions, even a difficult problem can have a happy ending.
Unless you keep talking and the Ice cream store is closed by the time we get there.
Chuckles….
[Fade to black.]
[EEMO sits on her bed wearing headphones, listening to loud rock music. She air-guitars wildly, shaking her head to the beat.]
YEAHHHH! ROCK AND ROLL!
[Downstairs, her dad is setting the table.]
Eemo! Dinner's ready!
[Eemo continues rocking out.]
EEMO!
[Eemo drums on her pillows.]
EEMO! IT'S DINNER TIME!
[Eemo pauses. She thinks she hears something, pulls off her headphones and looks around.]
Huh? What did you say?
[Her dad appears at the door.]
Dinner's ready! I've called you three times!
Oh! Sorry, Dad.
I was beginning to think I'd need a megaphone!
Okay, I'll come down.
[She puts her headphones aside and rubs her ears.]
Ooh. My ears are hurting a little.
Perhaps the music was a bit too loud. Let's give your ears a rest.
Okay. Tomorrow, I'm going to have a quiet day.
Sounds like a good plan. And if your ears keep hurting, tell me, okay?
I will, Dad.
[She glances at her headphones.]
Goodnight, rock and roll!
[SHELLY, EGGY and CHUCKLES are playing. Shelly starts hopping up and down, spreading her arms and legs.]
Hey, guys! Look at me! I'm a jumping star!
You put your arms like this, and your legs like this, and then you just jump!
[She demonstrates again.]
Can I be a jumping star too?
Of course!
[Eggy jumps, but his arms and legs go in different directions.]
How am I doing?
Great! You're just a little... wobbly.
Move aside! The greatest jumping star in the universe is here!
[Chuckles crouches, leaps into the air and lands stiffly with his arms by his sides.]
Ta-daaaa!
Chuckles, you're not a star.
I'm a shooting star. I shot straight down!
[They laugh.]
Hey, where's Eemo? She loves stars!
You're right! Let's go find her and invite her to be a jumping star.
Maybe she's practising a super-secret star jump!
Come on!
[They hurry across the playground.]
[Eemo sits alone on a bench, looking sad and tired. Her sketchbook rests on her lap. She gently rubs her ears and closes her eyes.]
Hey, Eemo! What are you up to?
My ears are hurting, and I want to have a quiet day.
Oh, Eemo. Are you okay?
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Everything feels too loud today.
I know about that! Sometimes it's called sensory overload.
Sensory over-what?
Sensory overload. It's when your brain gets too much information from the things you hear, see or feel, all at once.
It's a bit like having lots of little helpers in your head all talking at the same time. It's hard to concentrate when they're all making a fuss!
Sometimes those little helpers need a rest, so you can feel calm again.
Oh! I know all about quiet time. My mom tells me to be quiet whenever I start singing!
I think she's just jealous of my amazing voice.
[Eemo closes her eyes again, looking unimpressed.]
Chuckles, Eemo needs quiet because she's feeling overwhelmed.
Ohhh. Right.
[He sits down.]
So... how can we have a quiet day?
Maybe we just don't talk today.
WHAT?! How can we communicate?
We can use our hands to make hand signals!
[She waves enthusiastically. Eggy ducks.]
Maybe not quite so enthusiastically!
And we can draw pictures to express how we feel.
Got it! If I'm hungry, I can draw a picture of me crying my eyes out!
[He draws a stick figure with enormous tears streaming down its face.]
LOOK AT ME! I'M SOOOOO HUNGRY! But what if we want to have a conversation?
Well, if today is a quiet day, maybe we don't need to have a conversation. Maybe we just keep our mouths closed and enjoy being together.
[The Eggbuds settle down. Five seconds of complete silence.]
[Chuckles looks from one friend to another. He opens his mouth, remembers the rule, and closes it again.]
[After five seconds, he breaks.]
I kinda like this quiet stuff! It's fun. Hey, did I ever tell you guys my joke about the daffodil and the garbage truck?
Chuckles! Remember, we agreed to stop talking!
Oh, right. I forgot.
[He zips his lips and throws away an imaginary key.]
[SUDDENLY, SUNNY and JOCK burst into the playground.]
S-U-N-N-Y! GO, GO, EGGS-VILLE HIGH!
WHO JUST SCORED FIVE TOUCHDOWNS? YUP, THAT'S RIGHT! YOU GUESSED IT! IT'S YOUR BOY, JOCK! J-O-C-K! GOOOOOO JOCK!!!
[He pumps his fists and does a victory dance. Sunny cheers and jumps beside him.]
GUYS! SHHHHH! We're having quiet time!
[Sunny and Jock stop mid-cheer.]
Quiet time? Why are we having quiet time?
Eemo isn't feeling very well today. Her ears hurt.
It's a sensory thing.
Eemo is feeling overwhelmed by too much sensory input. She needs some peace and quiet.
[Jock nods seriously.]
Ooooooh. Okay. Got it.
[He takes a huge breath.]
I WANT TO HAVE A QUIET DAY TOO!
Can I join?
What do we need to do?
Let's start by turning the volume down just a little bit.
[Sunny carefully lowers her imaginary cheerleading megaphone. Jock tiptoes over to the bench.]
Is this quiet enough?
[He gives a tiny thumbs-up.]
I can still hear your thumbs!
[Everyone smiles except Eemo.]
[A gentle, soft instrumental melody begins.]
[MONTAGE: The Eggbuds find different ways to enjoy the quiet.]
[Shelly sits peacefully on a bench beside Eggy, who is relaxing upside down with his legs draped over the backrest.]
[Chuckles, Sunny and Jock lie on the grass with their eyes closed.]
[Sunny quietly practises a tiny cheer using just her fingers.]
[Chuckles is making funny breathing noises in an attempt to make everyone laugh. Nobody bites.]
[Eemo sits on the bench with her eyes closed. At first, she still looks sad and tired.]
[As the playground becomes peaceful, Eemo slowly opens her eyes. She sees her friends resting quietly nearby.]
[She smiles, closes her eyes again, and relaxes against the bench.]
[The gentle music continues for a moment before fading softly.]
[Eemo now looks refreshed and smiley. The others gather nearby.]
Thank you, everyone. I really needed some quiet time today, and you helped me feel better. You're the best friends ever!
You're welcome, Eemo!
Awwww! We love you too, Eemo!
We're always here for you!
And next time, I'll try to keep my victory celebrations a little quieter.
A little?
Okay... a LOT quieter.
[He does a tiny silent victory dance.]
Now THAT was the quietest touchdown I've ever seen!
[Everyone giggles.]
Sometimes I love loud rock music, and sometimes I need quiet. It depends on how I'm feeling.
And that's okay. We all have different needs.
Being a good friend means listening and helping each other feel comfortable.
[They all share a group hug.]
THIS EGG LOVES YOU!
[Eemo is fast asleep in bed, tucked under her duvet. Her headphones rest on the bedside table. She lets out a tiny snore.]
Zzzzz......zzzzz...
[Her dad peeks into the room, smiles, and gently closes the door.]
Sometimes, the world can feel a little too loud or too busy. When that happens, our brains and bodies might need a quiet break. It's okay to tell a grown-up how you're feeling and ask for some calm time. We all enjoy different things, and being a good friend means understanding what others need.
[Eemo rolls over and gives another tiny snore.]
And now... it's time for a quiet night!
[FADE TO BLACK.]
[The Eggs are chatting when MR EGGHEAD walks in holding a black sock.]
Good morning, class! Today, we're going to talk about something very exciting. Socks!
Finally! A lesson I can get my feet into!
[The class groans.]
Not ordinary socks, Chuckles. SOCK PUPPETS!
[He puts the sock over his hand and wiggles it.]
Hello, everybody! I am a very handsome sock!
You look like a sock that needs a haircut!
[Mr Egghead reveals the puppet's one tooth, scraggly brown hair and enormous green eyes.]
Meet Scraggles! He's my first example. One sock, two eyes, a tooth, a little hair... and absolutely no idea what's going on!
[He makes Scraggles look around in confusion.]
Where am I? And why is my head on your hand?
[The kids laugh.]
[Mr Egghead shows them another puppet: a pink unicorn with horse-like ears, a single horn and silver stars all over it.]
And here's our second example! A magical unicorn puppet!
She's beautiful!
The stars are lovely. The styling could use a little work, darling.
You can make your puppets however you like. Funny, scary, fashionable, even robotic! But please ask an adult to help if you're using scissors, glue or anything sharp.
[He points to the calendar.]
Today is Wednesday, so you've got plenty of time. Sock Puppet Day is this Friday! I'll remind you again tomorrow, and I'll post a reminder on the school app for your parents.
Excellent! That’s plenty of time to create a masterpiece!
You could start by finding a sock.
[Chuckles looks down at his feet.]
Found two! I'm already ahead!
We'll get started together tomorrow. Bring a sock to school, and let your imagination do the rest!
[The kids crowd around the unicorn puppet.]
Let's call her Sparkle!
SPARKLE! SPARKLE! SPARKLE!
And Scraggles?
He looks like he eats hairbrushes!
[Mr Egghead stares at him.]
Thank you, Chuckles. I'll be sure to write that in your report.
[The classroom is buzzing with creativity. Socks, paper, wool, stickers and googly eyes cover the tables.]
[Chuckles holds up a colourful Burberry-patterned sock puppet with three eyes, a huge smile and a long pink tongue that rolls out whenever its mouth opens.]
[He opens and closes the sock. The tongue flops out dramatically.]
Ladies and gentlemen, meet... THREE-EYED TREVOR!
Why does he have three eyes?
One for looking forward, one for looking backward, and one for checking if anyone's laughing at my jokes!
[Eemo has made a black sock puppet with long black hair, paper-clip earrings, a giant keyring nose ring, colourful paper makeup and a pendant. It looks like a rockstar.]
I'm going to call my sock Ozzy.
[She puts Ozzy on her hand, wiggles it towards Chuckles and adopts a gravelly rock-star voice.]
Sharooon! Sharooon! Where's me glasses?
[Chuckles backs away.]
My goodness! Who’s Sharon? That's one unique puppet!
[Ozzy turns towards him.]
I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
[Chuckles covers his ears.]
Neither can I, and I wasn't even wearing headphones!
[Sunny and Jock have made matching cheerleader and football-player puppets.]
Give me an S!
[She shakes her cheerleader sock.]
S!
Give me an O!
O!
Give me a C!
C!
Give me a K!
K!
WHAT'S THAT SPELL?
[They stare at each other.]
Did you just spell out my name?
No! Sock, silly!
[Sunny launches into a cheer while Jock's football puppet runs across the table and scores a touchdown.]
TOUCHDOWN!
[His puppet accidentally tackles Sunny's cheerleader.]
HEY! THAT'S NOT PART OF THE ROUTINE!
[Eggy proudly presents a bald sock puppet with little tufts of hair at the sides, makeshift glasses and a tiny book strapped to it.]
I made Mr Egghead!
[Mr Egghead walks past just as Eggy begins his impression.]
Class, today we're learning something very important!
I hope that's not who I think it is.
[Eggy turns the puppet towards him and copies his voice perfectly.]
I hope that's not who I think it is!
[The class bursts out laughing.]
Very funny, Eggy. Just remember who's writing your report card!
[Eggy makes the puppet faint dramatically.]
[Shelly presents a superhero sock with a cape and a special shirt.]
Don't worry, Mr Egghead! Sockman is here! No problem too big, no task too small!
[She flies Sockman around the classroom.]
What's his superpower? Being stinky?
[Shelly swoops Sockman right up to Chuckles's face.]
YOU GOT IT!
[Chuckles covers his nose and staggers backwards.]
HELP! I'M BEING ATTACKED BY A SMELLY SUPERHERO!
[Everyone laughs as Shelly flies Sockman off to save another victim.]
[Vogue is carefully trying to attach tiny sunglasses to her immaculate white sock puppet. It has blonde woollen hair, lipstick, eyeshadow, earrings, long eyelashes and a fabulous little fur coat.]
Oh, for goodness' sake! JUST STICK!
[She presses the sunglasses on. They fall off.]
Sunglasses are essential for the catwalk, darling. Sometimes the lights are too bright, and sometimes you may look tired.
[She turns to Arty, who is busy shredding a sock.]
Did you hear what I said, darling?
Huh? Ah... yeah. Make it fashionable.
Exactly, darling.
[She looks at Arty's creation: a shredded sock covered in holes, with one eye and an absurd number of arms and legs.]
This, on the other hand, is not fashionable.
Say hello to Socktopus! He comes from the bottom of the sock drawer, and he loves eating other socks!
[Socktopus lunges towards Vogue's model.]
[Vogue snatches her puppet away.]
EWWWW! HOW VILE!
Socktopus says your coat looks delicious!
TOUCH THE COAT AND YOU'LL NEVER WALK A CATWALK AGAIN!
[Socktopus retreats with a little wave.]
[Benedict and Yolko are working on two robot sock puppets.]
This is Zip. He's the smartest sock in the world. He knows absolutely everything!
And this is Zap. Zap learns from Zip, but also from the Eggs in Eggsville!
[She holds up Zap proudly.]
Zap, very smart sock. Super computer brain! Yolko make voice app and connect little speaker at home. Then he talk!
[Benedict looks astonished.]
Wow! You can really do that?
Easy peasy! We must have best sock puppets. Yolko will make happen!
[They high-five.]
Okay, let's do this!
[Then Benedict pauses.]
Wait. Does that mean you're taking my puppet home?
Yes! I make him talk. I take puppet home!
Okay... but don't destroy him or lose him. I put a lot of time into this.
I got this!
[She marches off with both robots.]
[Yolko works alone in her bedroom. Old headphones become tiny speakers. She tests voice commands on her phone, making silly robot noises in front of the mirror.]
Zip, say hello!
HEEEELLLLOOOO!
[Yolko jumps.]
Too loud!
[She adjusts the app.]
Zap, say hello!
H... h... h... HELLO! ERROR! HELLO! ERROR!
Oh no! Zap, you sound like broken washing machine!
[After several attempts, she finally gets both puppets working.]
[She video-calls Benedict on her smartwatch.]
Benedict! Look! Zip and Zap talk!
HELLO, BENEDICT. I KNOW EVERYTHING!
I KNOW EVERYTHING TOO! EXCEPT WHAT ZIP KNOWS!
THAT IS AMAZING! YOLKO, YOU'RE A GENIUS!
[Yolko beams.]
[Just then, her dad calls from downstairs.]
Yolko! Come and see the new Japanese plant I bought!
Coming, Dad!
[She rushes downstairs, leaving Zip and Zap on a hallway bench.]
[A moment later, her mom walks through the hallway, spots the socks and picks them up.]
Dirty socks lying around? Not in my house!
[She marches to the laundry room and throws both puppets into the washing machine with the dirty clothes.]
There we go!
[Meanwhile, Yolko admires the plant, has a tickle fight with Dad, eats dinner and eventually goes to bed.]
[The puppets are forgotten.]
[Yolko rushes around getting ready for school.]
Zip? Zap? Time to wake up!
[She searches her bedroom, her schoolbag and under her bed.]
[Nothing.]
[She rushes downstairs.]
Mom! Dad! Have you seen my robot sock puppets?
[Her mom freezes.]
Your... what?
Zip and Zap! I left them in the hall!
[Her mom's eyes widen. She bolts towards the washing machine and opens it.]
[She pulls out two dripping-wet socks.]
Oh dear.
[Yolko stares at them. Her face goes white.]
NOOOOO! ROBOTS GONE! YOLKO NOT HAPPY!
[She bursts into tears and runs upstairs.]
THIS IS WORST DAY EVER!
[Her mom and dad hurry after her.]
It was an accident, sweetheart!
ACCIDENT RUINED MY ROBOTS!
[Yolko runs to the bathroom, shuts the door and calls Benedict on her smartwatch.]
Good morning! How are my robots?
[Yolko holds up the two soggy puppets.]
Zip and Zap... wet. Very, very wet!
[Benedict's smile disappears.]
YOU WASHED THEM?!
No! Mom wash them! Accident!
I knew I shouldn't have trusted you to look after them! I worked so hard on Zip!
[Yolko's eyes fill with tears.]
THIS IS THE WORST DAY EVER!
[He hangs up.]
[Yolko cries harder. After a moment, she opens the bathroom door and runs into her mom's arms.]
[Her dad checks the clock.]
It's 8:40! We're going to be late!
[Yolko and her mom grab her schoolbag and lunchbox and race out the door.]
[At the last second, Mom darts back into the laundry room. She grabs two dry socks from the dryer and a pack of gold star stickers from her bag.]
This might fix things!
[She sprints back outside.]
[Yolko sits in the back seat, clutching her smartwatch.]
Benedict? My mom has a plan! Meet us in the canteen in ten minutes!
A plan? What kind of plan?
I don't know! Mom says it's a surprise!
[She looks towards the front seat.]
Is it a good surprise?
I'm working on it, darling!
That does not sound like a yes!
[Benedict waits anxiously. Yolko and her mom rush in.]
[Mom lays two clean socks on the table, along with the gold star stickers.]
I'm so sorry, Benedict. I accidentally put your puppets in the washing machine. I can't undo that, but I thought we could make something new together.
[She holds up the socks.]
I present... the SUPERSTAR SOCKBOTS!
[She covers the socks in gold stars and adds little robot eyes.]
Your original designs aren't possible today, but you can bring these to life yourselves!
[Benedict looks at Yolko, then at the socks.]
We can still perform?
YES! Superstar Sockbots! Zip and Zap!
Zip and Zap!
[They jump up and down with excitement.]
Now, it's up to you to bring them to life.
[She places one sock on each child's hand.]
[Benedict makes his puppet speak in a deep robotic voice.]
GREETINGS, EARTH CHILD!
[Yolko responds with a high-pitched alien voice.]
EARTH CHILD? I THOUGHT WE WERE ON MARS!
SYSTEM ERROR. I FORGOT WHERE WE PARKED!
[They both burst into laughter.]
Mom, thank you!
Yes, thank you! And... Yolko, I'm sorry I shouted at you.
I am sorry too. I should have looked after Zip and Zap more carefully.
[They high-five.]
That's what friends do. They make mistakes, learn from them and help each other.
And next time, we keep our robots away from the washing machine!
Especially if they cannot swim!
[The kids arrive with their sock puppets. Mr Egghead stands at the front of the class.]
Welcome to Sock Puppet Day! Who's ready to show us what they've created?
My puppet has three eyes, one tongue and absolutely no manners!
[He makes Trevor's tongue roll out.]
I CAN SEE YOU!
All three eyes?
ALL THREE!
Ozzy is ready to rock!
[She wiggles Ozzy's long hair.]
I THINK I SHOULD GET A DOG SUIT. THEY’RE TREATED BETTER THAN ME!
My cheerleader is ready!
GIVE ME A S! GIVE ME AN O!
My football puppet has a message!
I'M GOING TO SCORE A TOUCHDOWN!
[He launches the puppet across the desk.]
HE'S OFFSIDE!
[Shelly brings out Sockman.]
Sockman can save the day!
Can he save my ears?
[Sockman flies at him.]
NO PROMISES!
[Vogue presents her glamorous model.]
Elegant, sophisticated and absolutely fabulous!
[Arty makes Socktopus creep into view.]
And here's Socktopus!
[Vogue gasps.]
Keep that thing away from my model!
He's just looking for a little fashion advice!
HE NEEDS A WHOLE NEW SOCK!
[Finally, Benedict and Yolko step forward with Zip and Zap, now covered in sparkling gold stars.]
And what have we here?
[Benedict gives the class a brief history of the past 24 hours, the original sock puppets, the washing machine accident, and the scramble to create new puppets. He doesn’t let it get him down and instead amps up this excitement….]
Introducing... the SUPERSTAR SOCKBOTS!
[The lights dim slightly. Benedict and Yolko strike dramatic robot poses.]
ATTENTION, EGGS OF EGGSVILLE! WE HAVE TRAVELLED FROM THE PLANET SOCK-URUS!
WE COME IN PEACE!
[A beat.]
WE ALSO COME IN GLITTER!
[They fling their arms out. Gold stars flutter everywhere.]
INITIATING ROBOT DANCE!
[The two puppets launch into a hilariously synchronised robot dance. Benedict and Yolko make electronic beeps, alien noises and robotic sound effects as the puppets spin, wobble and perform a spectacularly silly finale.]
SYSTEM CHECK!
ALL SYSTEMS GO!
FRIENDSHIP LEVEL?
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!
[They high-five their sock hands.]
[The class erupts in applause.]
THAT WAS AMAZING!
BEST ROBOT DANCE EVER!
The stars! The sparkle! The stage presence! Absolutely fabulous!
Can Socktopus join their robot band?
Only if he can dance!
[Arty makes Socktopus wiggle wildly.]
HE'S BEEN PRACTISING IN THE SOCK DRAWER!
[Mr Egghead smiles at the class.]
What a fantastic show! You've all made something different, and every puppet has its own personality.
[He looks at Benedict and Yolko.]
And sometimes, when things don't go according to plan, a little teamwork can create something even better than we imagined.
Zip and Zap not the same as before...
But they're still our puppets. And they're still amazing!
Plus, nobody put them in the washing machine this time!
[Everyone laughs.]
Remember, it's not about making the perfect puppet. It's about using your imagination, trying your best and helping each other along the way.
[The kids hold up their puppets together.]
PILE ON!!!!
[The Eggbuds use their hands to pile the sock puppets on top of each other like a tower of socks.]
[Fade to Black.]
[EGGY sits nervously on a chair with his mouth wide open. SHELLY wears a toy dentist’s coat and holds a plastic toothbrush. CHUCKLES wears a pair of oversized safety glasses and stands beside her with a notepad.]
Open wide, Eggy! I’m going to check your teeth.
Ahhhhhhh!
Excellent. Keep it open like that. I’ve always wanted to see if there’s a tiny Mr Egghead living there.
There is NOT!
Then who’s that little fella waving at me?
[EGGY snaps his mouth shut. CHUCKLES peers into his own mouth instead.]
Oh! Sorry. That’s me.
Nurse Chuckles, pass me the toothbrush, please.
[CHUCKLES hands her a plastic comb.]
That’s a comb.
Right! I wondered why it wasn’t brushing very well.
[SHELLY examines EGGY’s teeth.]
Hmm. I think you might need a filling.
A filling? Of what?
A filling of candy! And possibly a new dentist.
Chuckles! You’re supposed to be helping!
I am. I’ve been practising my reassuring face.
[He pulls an enormous, terrifying grin.]
That’s your reassuring face?!
It reassures me that I should never become a dentist.
[They all laugh.]
[CHUCKLES puts on a toy stethoscope. EGGY and SHELLY return carrying a small toy hamster in a pet carrier.]
Welcome to Chuckles’ Animal Hospital! What seems to be the problem?
Our little hamster has been making some very strange noises.
Yes! He is releasing a lot of air!
[They make a series of tiny raspberry noises. CHUCKLES looks down at the hamster.]
Goodness! Is that a hamster or a tiny trumpet?
It’s been going on all morning!
We’re worried he might be poor.
[CHUCKLES listens to the hamster with his stethoscope.]
Hmm. His heartbeat sounds normal. His tummy sounds a bit bubbly.
[Another raspberry noise.]
And his bottom appears to be playing a solo!
Can you make it stop?
I’m a vet, not a magician!
[He pauses thoughtfully.]
Although, I once had a very similar problem myself.
You had a hamster?
No. I had a very windy afternoon.
[EGGY and SHELLY stare at him.]
Let’s just say I was asked to sit at the other end of the bus.
[They burst out laughing. CHUCKLES gently puts the toy hamster back in its carrier.]
My professional advice? We’ll keep an eye on him and ask a real vet if he seems unwell.
Good idea!
And perhaps we should open a window.
[He pretends to open an imaginary window and gets blown backwards by an imaginary gust.]
[SHELLY sets up her toy barber kit. Plastic scissors, a toy comb and a plastic hairdryer sit on the table. EGGY sits in the barber’s chair, while CHUCKLES waits with a magazine held upside down.]
Welcome to Shelly’s Super Snips! Who’s first?
Me! I’d like a haircut that makes me look intelligent.
That might take a while.
Fine. Just do the sides.
[SHELLY pretends to snip his hair with the useless plastic scissors.]
Careful! Those scissors aren’t cutting anything!
That’s because they’re plastic!
Phew! I was worried I’d become a permanent customer.
[SHELLY turns to EGGY and pretends to wash his hair.]
And now, Eggy, we’ll give you a lovely shampoo.
[She gently massages his head with pretend soap.]
Make sure you get behind my ears.
You don’t have any hair behind your ears!
I know. I like to keep my ears clean.
[The front door opens. SHELLY’S MOM arrives home from work.]
Hello, everyone! What’s going on here?
We’re running a very professional barbershop. I’m the customer, the receptionist and the complaints department.
That sounds like a lot of jobs!
I actually need a proper haircut. My barber moved to another town, and I don’t want to go to someone new.
Well, you’re in luck! Cutting hair is what I do for a living. I can give you a real haircut, if your mom says it’s okay.
[EGGY looks uncertain.]
Mom’s brilliant at haircuts!
And if anything goes wrong, I’m available to write a strongly worded review.
That’s not helping.
[SHELLY’S MOM video-calls EGGY’S MOM on her phone.]
Hi! Eggy was asking about a haircut. Would you be happy for me to do it?
Of course! I trust you. Just don’t give him a mohawk!
No promises!
CHUCKLES!
[SHELLY’S MOM prepares her professional clippers and comb. EGGY sits up straight.]
Ready, Eggy?
Ready!
[Suddenly, one of SHELLY’S cats leaps onto a table to chase another cat across the room. A loud CLATTER! SHELLY’S MOM jumps in fright.]
WHOA!
[Her hand jerks. The clippers zip straight through a wide strip of hair down the middle of EGGY’S head.]
[BUZZZZZZZZT!]
[Silence.]
[Everyone stares at EGGY. A long, bare strip runs across the top of his head.]
Well… it looks like a motorbike drove straight over your hair!
[EGGY slowly turns to look at him.]
I am NOT impressed.
Sorry. I’m just trying to understand the style. Is it called the Landing Strip?
[EGGY looks utterly devastated. SHELLY looks at the ceiling, the floor, anywhere but EGGY.]
Oh, Eggy. I am SO sorry! I didn’t mean to do that!
I can’t go around with a landing strip on my head!
[SHELLY and CHUCKLES desperately try to hold in their laughter. Their cheeks puff up. CHUCKLES makes a squeaking noise.]
This might be funny for some people… but NOT ME!
[They immediately stop.]
Take it off.
Take… what off? You mean all of it?
YES!
But you’ll look ridiculous!
Thank you, Shelly. That’s exactly what I needed to hear.
I mean… you might look ridiculous with NO hair!
You’ll be as bald as an egg!
[EGGY gives him a withering stare.]
Oh. Right. You ARE an egg. Sorry. Bad timing.
[SHELLY rushes to her wardrobe and pulls out a long, bright-pink wig.]
What about this?
[Before EGGY can answer, CHUCKLES grabs the wig and plonks it on his own head.]
How do I look?
It suits you.
Thank you! I’m thinking of changing my name to Chuckle-ina.
[He strikes a ridiculous pose. Nobody laughs.]
Before I do anything else, I need to tell your mom exactly what happened.
[She video-calls EGGY’S MOM again and explains everything.]
Oh dear! Poor Eggy. I’m sorry, sweetheart. I think shaving it all off is the best option. It’ll grow back before you know it. And you can wear a hat if you want to.
But I’ll look like a bald egg!
Technically, you’ll look like an egg that’s been peeled.
CHUCKLES!
And I’ll look older! Or younger! People won’t know if I’m a baby egg or an old grandad egg!
Don’t worry. Your voice will give it away.
[EGGY takes a deep breath, then reluctantly nods.]
Fine. Let’s just get it over with.
[MONTAGE: SHELLY’S MOM carefully shaves EGGY’S head. CHUCKLES watches, holding a hand mirror. SHELLY winces with every pass of the clippers.]
I don’t know where to look.
Try looking at the floor. That’s what I’m doing.
[The haircut is finished. EGGY feels his smooth head, looks in the mirror and gasps.]
Oh, no…
[He bolts out of the room.]
Eggy, wait!
I think my review is going to need a second draft.
[EGGY locks himself in his room. His mom and dad stand outside the door.]
Eggy, sweetheart, can we see your new haircut?
I bet it looks egg-cellent!
[EGGY’S MOM nudges him sharply.]
Ow! I mean… excellent. Just excellent.
I’m never going back to school! Everyone will laugh at me!
A haircut doesn’t change who you are, Eggy.
You’re still the same clever, kind—
[He catches his wife’s warning look.]
—and extremely shiny little egg!
[EGGY groans from inside.]
We’re not laughing at you, sweetheart. We just want you to know that you’re loved, no matter what your hair looks like.
I don’t care! GO AWAY!
[Inside, EGGY tries to make a wig using black wool. It looks like a tangled bird’s nest.]
Terrible.
[He draws stubble on his head with a washable marker. He looks in the mirror.]
Now I look like I’ve got dirt on my head!
[He considers drawing flames.]
Maybe flames would look cool. Like a racing car!
[He holds the marker up, then sighs.]
No. I’d look like a boiled egg on fire.
[He flops onto his bed, still dressed, and falls asleep.]
[EGGY wakes up, stretches and walks to the mirror. He sees his bald head.]
AAAAAH! THE HAIR DISASTER!
Time for school, Eggy!
[A knock at the door. CHUCKLES enters carrying a suspiciously bulging bag.]
Morning! I’ve come to help.
Unless you’ve brought me a new head, I don’t want to know.
Better. I’ve brought OPTIONS!
[He pulls out a gigantic floppy hat and places it on EGGY’S head. It covers his eyes.]
Ta-da! A mysterious travelling egg!
[He tries on a pair of glasses with enormous fake hair attached. The hair sticks up in every direction.]
Really, Chuckles?
Hmmmm. Maybe not!
[Finally, CHUCKLES pulls out long black braids borrowed from his sister.]
My masterpiece!
Where did you get those?
My sister. She said, “Don’t you dare touch my hair extensions!”
And you touched them?
Technically, I borrowed them. Without asking.
[CHUCKLES uses costume-safe wig tape to attach the braids to a thin, removable strip. He carefully places the hair on Eggy’s head]
There! Now you look like a rock star!
[EGGY looks in the mirror. The long braids hang down either side of his face.]
I… actually look pretty cool.
Of course! You look like you’re about to headline a concert!
[They sneak downstairs, grab EGGY’S woolly hat and hurry out before his mom sees the braids.]
[EGGY arrives wearing his woolly hat. His mom video-calls him on his smartwatch.]
Eggy! I’m so proud of you for going to school. Remember, if anyone teases you or makes you feel uncomfortable, tell your teacher or me. You don’t have to handle it alone.
I will, Mom.
And remember, you’re wonderful with or without hair.
Thanks, Mom.
[He ends the call. He takes a deep breath and removes his hat.]
[The class goes completely silent.]
[The long black braids swing down.]
WHOA!
That is some serious hair!
Darling… that is quite a statement.
I’m getting rock-star vibes!
[Some children whisper that it looks unusual. Nobody insults him, but EGGY looks increasingly nervous.]
Everyone, meet Eggy Marley!
[He gives an exaggerated reggae-style sway.]
Don’t worry, Eggy. We can start a band. You do the hair, I’ll do the dancing!
[CHUCKLES attempts a dance, gets tangled in the braids and spins around.]
Chuckles! Stop!
[CHUCKLES immediately stops.]
Sorry, mate.
[SHELLY approaches quietly.]
Eggy, can I talk to you at lunchtime?
[EGGY nods, looking worried.]
[SHELLY sits beside EGGY.]
Eggy, I think you should take the extensions off and tell everyone what happened. You don’t need to pretend. Your hair will grow back.
But then everyone will see my bald head!
They might be surprised for a minute. But you’ll still be Eggy. And you won’t have to worry about your braids falling off.
[One braid slips sideways.]
They’re not supposed to do that.
[CHUCKLES arrives, looking guilty.]
Eggy… I’m sorry. I wanted to help you feel better, but I should have asked before borrowing my sister’s hair. And I shouldn’t have rushed you into wearing it.
You did want to help.
I did. But I think I made things more complicated.
[Just then, EGGY’S MOM arrives with his favourite lunch.]
Surprise! I thought I’d come and check how you were doing!
[She sees the braids and freezes. Her lips twitch as she tries very hard not to laugh.]
Mom! Don’t!
I’m not laughing at you, sweetheart. I’m just surprised! That is a LOT of hair.
He’s Eggy Marley!
[Chuckles sings.]
No hair, no cry….
Sorry….
Shelly’s right, Eggy. You don’t have to hide your head. But it’s your choice when you’re ready.
[EGGY looks at the braids, then at his friends.]
I think… I’m ready.
[EGGY carefully removes the braids and wig tape with help from his mom. He takes off the last piece and rubs his smooth head.]
[His friends gather around.]
Well? What do you think?
[A little pause.]
I think it really suits you!
You look brilliant!
You look like a cool little rock!
Darling, bald is a look. And you’re wearing it beautifully.
You look faster already!
Faster?
Less hair, less wind resistance!
[EGGY laughs.]
And now you’re ready to become our new teacher!
What?!
Just think! Eggy Egghead! You can stand at the front of the class and say, “Good morning, children! Today we’re learning how to stay calm when a cat jumps on a table!”
[Everyone laughs. EGGY gives CHUCKLES a playful nudge.]
Very funny!
Seriously, Eggy. You look great. And I’m sorry I made you feel you had to hide.
Thanks, Chuckles. I’m glad I took the braids off.
That’s my brave boy.
I still wish my hair hadn’t been shaved off.
And I’m still very sorry, Eggy. You know what they say, ‘a black cat crossing your path brings bad luck’
[A cat suddenly leaps onto the table behind her.]
EEEK!
[Everyone jumps. EGGY pats his bald head.]
At least the cat can’t mess up my hair now!
[They all burst out laughing.]
END.
[Colourful flags flutter. A banner reads “WELCOME TO SPORTS DAY!” One corner of the banner has already fallen down. Mr Egghead attempts to fix it with a piece of tape. It falls down again and lands on his head.]
Welcome, to our annual Sports Day! A day of teamwork, good sportsmanship, and having fun!
And snacks?
And snacks, Chuckles.
FINALLY! A sport I'm good at!
[Chuckles strikes a triumphant pose, then stumbles backwards and lands sitting in a bucket.]
And that's why we warm up first.
[Vogue enters wearing oversized sunglasses, a sparkling tracksuit and a headband. She carries a tiny mirror.]
Please, nobody panic. The star athlete has arrived.
Are you here to run or have your picture taken?
Both, darling. I believe in multitasking.
[Scrambully charges past them, doing high knees and punching the air.]
Out of my way! Champion coming through!
But we haven't started yet.
I'm already winning the warm-up.
Amazing! What's the prize?
Everything for me, and nothing for you losers!
Oh. I was hoping for some candy
[Mr Egghead blows his whistle. It makes a tiny, disappointing squeak.]
Today's first event is the egg-and-spoon race!
[The kids cheer. CHUCKLES looks at the eggs.]
Ok, then. Everyone, grab a spoon and take an egg from the basket. One egg only!
[The children collect their spoons and eggs. SCRAMBULLY glances around to check that nobody is watching. He pulls a little bottle of extra-sticky craft glue from his pocket.]
A champion doesn’t take any risks.
[He carefully dabs glue onto his spoon and sticks his egg firmly in place.]
There! Egg secured. Victory is all mine!
[He gives the spoon a shake. The egg doesn't move.]
Perfect. I could probably do a cartwheel.
[He attempts one, immediately loses his balance and falls over. The egg stays glued to the spoon.]
See? Even gravity can't beat me!
[Unfortunately for Scrambully, Shelly and Sunny have seen everything from behind a stack of cones.]
Did Scrambully just glue his egg to his spoon?
I think so.
Isn’t that cheating?
We should tell Mr Egghead.
[Scrambully turns suddenly. Shelly and Sunny duck behind the cones.]
Hey! Who's there?
[Silence.]
If anyone's thinking of telling tales, just remember who's the fastest runner in school and who will catch you in the end.
[He flexes his arms.]
And the strongest!
[Shelly and Sunny exchange worried looks.]
Scrambully will not be happy if he finds out we told.
But if we don't say anything, he'll win unfairly.
I know. I just don't want any trouble from him.
[They look towards Scrambully, who is practicing a light run with his egg and spoon.]
Maybe he'll change his mind.
Sunny, he glued an egg to a spoon. I don't think he's waiting for a change of heart.
[Mr Egghead lines up the competitors.]
Remember, everyone. Hold your spoon carefully, keep your eyes on the finish line, and don't touch the egg with your hands!
[Vogue examines her spoon.]
Mr Egghead, will this race damage my nails? I just had them done this morning.
Only if you use your fingernails to hold the egg.
That’s vile!
[Chuckles holds his spoon out like a microphone.]
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the annual Eggsville High Egg & Spoon Race, where the eggs are fragile and the competitors are questionable!
Chuckles, please get into position.
I'm building the atmosphere!
Build it quietly.
[SCRAMBULLY strides to the starting line, holding his spoon out proudly. His egg is suspiciously secure.]
That egg doesn't even wobble.
Maybe we should say something to Mr Egghead now.
You tell him.
Me?
You said we should tell him!
Yes, but I thought you might be the one who said it.
I was hoping you'd say it while I stood nearby looking supportive.
I'm very good at looking supportive!
[They both turn towards Mr Egghead. Their mouths open. Nothing comes out.]
Is everyone ready?
Born ready!
[Mr Egghead raises his whistle.]
On your marks! Get set! GO!
[The children set off. Vogue takes tiny, elegant steps, determined not to break a sweat.]
Graceful! Elegant! Effortless!
[Her egg slips off the spoon and cracks open on the ground.]
Oh, fabulous. Now I can relax and read Fashion Weekly.
[Vogue throws her spoon on the ground in disgust, pulls her magazine out of her jacket, and takes a seat on a nearby bench.]
[Chuckles takes one step, then freezes.]
Everybody stop! I think my egg is looking at me.
Chuckles, keep moving!
I'm trying to build trust!
[Sunny carefully walks forward, concentrating on the egg. Shelly follows, glancing nervously at Scrambully.]
[Scrambully, meanwhile, marches forward with confidence. His egg remains perfectly glued to his spoon.]
Look at that technique! Precision! Power! Unquestionable genius!
Or questionable glue.
Shhh!
[Scrambully speeds up. The spoon bounces. The egg stays firmly in place.]
That egg has better balance than I do!
[He tries to copy Scrambully's marching technique, takes two enormous steps, and his egg flies into the air.]
EGG INCOMING!
[Everyone ducks. The egg lands on Mr Egghead’s head.]
Well, that's one way to get breakfast.
[Scrambully crosses the finish line first, waving his spoon like a trophy.]
YES! I WIN! I AM THE GREATEST ATHLETE IN THE HISTORY OF SPORTS DAY!
Congratulations, Scrambully. That was certainly a fast race.
Fast? I was practically a blur!
Yes, a blur with terrible sportswear.
As I am a genius, I demand a trophy bigger than my genius brain!
That would be a very small trophy.
[Chuckles grins. SCRAMBULLY glares at him.]
Keep laughing, Chuckles. You might be next.
[Chuckles' grin disappears. Shelly and Sunny look at each other. The moment to speak has passed again.]
[Mr Egghead prepares to announce the winner. Scrambully stands on a box to make himself look taller.]
Before we hand out the prize, I'd like to say something. Sports Day isn't just about winning. It's about trying your best, being fair, and respecting one another.
Absolutely! And I tried my best. Which is why I won.
Here's your prize, Scrambully.
[He presents SCRAMBULLY with a small golden cup.]
Wonderful! I shall place it with my other trophies at home.
What were the other trophies for? Having the biggest head on the planet?
CHUCKLES!
Just checking.
[Scrambully holds up the cup with one hand, and his spoon with the other. The glued egg is still attached to his spoon.]
Scrambully, why is your egg still stuck to your spoon?
[Everyone looks. Scrambully freezes.]
Er... it's... a special holding technique.
Darling, that's not a technique. That, my dear, is a sticky situation.
Did you glue your egg to the spoon?
No!
[Mr Egghead takes the egg and spoon from Scrambully and gives the spoon a little shake. The egg doesn't move.]
This is a sticky situation.
Scrambully, I need you to tell me the truth.
[Scrambully looks at Shelly and Sunny. They quickly look away.]
Fine! I glued it! But l won the race!
You did win the race. But the rules were the same for everyone. Your egg wasn't balanced on the spoon like the others.
But I won!
You won by breaking the rules. That isn't the same as winning fairly.
[Scrambully looks down at his trophy.]
But... if I don't win, everyone will think I'm a loser.
I don't think you're a loser, Scrambully.
But you can't call yourself the best if you cheat.
[Scrambully looks at them suspiciously.]
You knew?
[Shelly and Sunny exchange a nervous glance.]
Sunny and I saw you glue the egg to the spoon.
We wanted to tell Mr Egghead, but we were scared you'd get angry with us.
[Scrambully’s face changes. He looks lost for words.]
You were scared of me?
Well... you did say you'd come after us.
I couldn’t afford to mess with my winning streak.
Scrambully, being great at sport means more than running fast. You have to play fair and ensure others don’t feel threatened.
[Scrambully looks at Sunny and Shelly.]
I suppose... I shouldn't have made you scared to tell the truth.
No, you shouldn't.
And you shouldn't have glued your egg to the spoon.
I know! I know! No need for the court house lecture
Too late. I've already been elected judge of this jury.
[Chuckles pulls out a judicial wig and wears it like a hat. It slides down over his eyes.]
The judge can no longer manage this trial.
[Mr Egghead takes the trophy back from Scrambully.]
Since the race wasn't fair, we're going to have another one. This time, everyone follows the rules.
Do I have to?
Yes.
Can I at least keep the trophy while I race?
No.
Can I keep the box?
Also no.
[The children line up again. Scrambully reluctantly puts down his glue bottle.]
All right. No glue. No tricks. Just pure athletic talent.
And hopefully a better outfit.
And hopefully a better egg!
On your marks! Get set! GO!
[This time, the race is a glorious mess. Vogue's egg once again rolls off her spoon. Chuckles wobbles about in circles because he thinks it helps with balance. Sunny moves steadily. Shelly giggles but keeps going. Scrambully races ahead, then notices Shelly's egg wobbling dangerously.]
[Scrambully slows down.]
Careful, Shelly! Hold your spoon level!
[Shelly steadies the egg and carries on. Scrambully reaches the finish line, but Sunny crosses just ahead of him.]
And the winner is... Sunny!
Oh! Really? I was just trying not to drop my egg!
Guys! Wait for me!
[Chuckles is still moving slowly close to the starting line. Everyone laughs. SCRAMBULLY looks at Sunny, then at the trophy.]
Well... it looks like you won fair and square.
Thanks, Scrambully.
And I'm sorry, Shelly. Sorry, Sunny. I shouldn't have tried to scare you into keeping quiet.
Thanks for saying that.
You can still be a good sport, even if you don't win.
I suppose I could try being the fastest one who doesn't cheat.
And I'm aiming to be the fastest kid to the snack table!
[Chuckles sprints away. His egg and spoon fly into the air, before his egg once again crashes and breaks on Mr Egghead’s head.]
How does that keep happening?!
Honestly, Mr Egghead, it must be your name.
[Everyone laughs.]
Well, we learned a valuable lesson today. Winning feels great, but being honest, fair, and standing up for what's right are worth much more than a trophy.
[Chuckles is eating some donuts.]
And snacks?
And snacks, Chuckles.
BEST. SPORTS DAY. EVER!
[Chuckles raises Sunny’s arm to celebrate her win. Her egg falls from her spoon and breaks over Chuckles head, leaving the yolk dripping down his face. Chuckles puts his hands through his hair, which now resembles a punk-like mohawk]
Look! I've finally got a cool hairstyle!
Darling, no. Just... no.
[The children burst into laughter. Fade to black.]
[Boomer, the school janitor, is tightening a loose bolt on a playground swing with his battered old wrench. He polishes it lovingly before returning to work.]
There you go, old girl. Another job done properly. None of this fancy-dancy newfangled nonsense. A wrench, a strong arm, and a sensible head. That's all a person needs!
[He stands, stretches, and accidentally knocks the wrench off the toolbox. It bounces once, twice, then rolls down the muddy bank beside the playground.]
Oh, fiddle-sticks!
[The wrench slides into the swamp with a tiny PLOOP.]
NOOOOOOO!
[He stares at the swamp. A bubble rises to the surface. PLOP.]
Well, that's just rude.
[All of the Eggbuds rush over.]
BOOMER? Are you okay?
Am I okay?! My wrench is in there!
Now your wrench will have a stench!
Very funny, young man. That wrench is irreplaceable!
Technically, most objects can be replaced.
NOT THIS ONE!
[The Eggbuds look stumped for an answer.]
My grandad gave me that wrench when I became a janitor. He was a janitor too. He told me, "Take care of your tools, and they'll take care of you."
[He looks sadly at the swamp.]
Awwww, don’t worry Boomer. We'll help you get it back.
You? Help me? No offence, little ones, but this is a grown-up problem. Leave it to the experts.
Excellent! Where are the experts?
You’re looking at one.
[Chuckles catches his reflection in the swamp.]
Oh! Me! You’re too kind…I was just..
Not you! ME!
[BOOMER marches to the edge of the swamp, hands on hips.]
Right! Back in my day, we didn't need a committee to solve a problem. We just rolled up our sleeves and got on with it!
[He rolls up his sleeves and takes a step towards the muddy bank. The ground squelches beneath his boot.]
Wait! That mud looks slippery!
I could pull you out if you got stuck!
Or we could make sure nobody gets stuck in the first place.
Hmph! Caution never fixed anything.
[He takes another step. SQUELCH! His boot gets stuck.]
I meant to do that.
Fantastic. We've retrieved one boot!
[Jock carefully helps Boomer back onto firm ground.]
Okay, everyone. Let's think. We need the wrench, but nobody goes into the swamp. Agreed?
Agreed!
In my day, we would have just….
Boomer, we really do want to help. Can you let us try?
[Boomer folds his arms.]
Fine. But I won't be responsible for any silly ideas.
Then you might want to look away.
Team meeting! Everybody gets a turn. What can we do from safe, solid ground?
My vibe code app can map the swamp!
[YOLKO holds up a homemade gadget. It makes a scanning sound before beeping frantically.]
It's currently detecting... a sandwich.
[Chuckles whips out a sandwich and takes a huge bite. The beeps on Yolko’s tablet sound sick and die off]
Maybe it wants a bite?
It's a prototype!
According to my book on wetlands, soft ground can be unstable. We shouldn't walk onto it. We need a way to reach the wrench without stepping into the mud.
I can throw a rope really far!
Only if we have a safe plan for what the rope is attached to. We're not tying it to anyone and pulling them into the swamp.
Right. Strong muscles, sensible brain. Got it!
We need team spirit! Give me a B! Give me an E! Give me an—
Give me a bed! I’m so full I could do with a power nap
CHUCKLES!
Sorry. I thought she was cheering for bed.
I was about to spell believe! We need to believe we can do this.
What if we build a long grabber? We could sketch a design first.
[Arty draws a long pole with a hook on the end.]
I have some ribbon we could use to mark the safe area. It's fabulous, it's bright, and it matches my shoes.
Stinky?
How dare you! My shoes smell like roses. You must be thinking of your breath?
Guys! Teamwork, remember!
We could make a song to help us keep the plan in order!
A song? For a wrench?
Why not? Everything's better with a tune.
Stay on the ground, don't wander around, find a safe way to get that tool found!
Catchy. But we need more cowbell.
Hold on! We've got a map, a design, a safety plan, strong muscles, and a song. Let's put them together!
In my day, we didn't need songs to find tools.
Maybe that's why you lost yours.
[The Eggbuds gasp. Eemo blinks innocently.]
Sorry. That rhymed by accident.
That's enough! I'll handle this myself.
[He grabs a long-handled rake from his cleaning cart and stretches it towards the swamp. He can't reach the wrench.]
Just a little further...
[The rake slips from his hands and plops into the mud beside the wrench.]
Oh, come ON!
Breaking News! This just in….the swamp has a new rake!
Stop joking! This is serious!
[Chuckles’ smile fades.]
I was only trying to help.
Well, jokes won't get my wrench back! And neither will your singing, your drawings, or that giant phone you’re holding.
[Yolko lowers her tablet. Arty crumples his sketch. Eemo looks down.]
Boomer, that's not fair. Everyone has been trying their best.
I know tools. I know hard work. I know how things are done. You little ones don't understand these things!
But you haven't even heard our whole plan.
Because I don't need a plan from any of you!
[Silence.]
Everyone, take a breath. We don't have to agree about everything. But we do have to listen to each other.
Boomer, your wrench matters to you. We understand that. But we need you to trust us, too.
[BOOMER glances at the muddy swamp and the rake.]
I... suppose I got a little carried away.
A little? You nearly tried to arm-wrestle a swamp.
[A reluctant chuckle escapes BOOMER.]
All right. Show me your plan. I'll listen.
[Arty spreads out the sketch on a table well away from the swamp.]
Here's my design. A long, sturdy pole with a small hook at the end.
I can help measure the distance from the firm path. We can check the reach before anyone tries anything.
And we should only use a proper tool that's suitable for lifting the wrench. No leaning over the edge or reaching beyond the safe area.
I'll carry the equipment and keep the pole steady from the path, with BOOMER checking the grip.
I'll mark the safe boundary with my bright ribbon. No one crosses it. Safety, but make it fashion!
And I'll keep everyone cheering!
Give me a T! Give me an E! Give me an A! Give me an M!
What does that spell?
TEAM!
There’s no I in ‘team’, but there is in Ice Cream.
I'll make sure we take turns and check that everyone's ready before we begin.
And I'll keep the rhythm steady!
Perfect. We'll work together, follow the safety rules, and stop if anything doesn't feel safe. Boomer, will you help us check the equipment?
[Boomer studies Arty's drawing, then examines the pole.]
Hmmm. A proper grip, a long reach, and nobody putting themselves in danger. That's... actually a sensible bit of thinking.
Did you just compliment us?
Don't get used to it.
Too late. I'm framing it.
[They position themselves on firm ground, with Boomer supervising the equipment and Jock coordinating. Jock supports the pole as Boomer carefully guides the hook towards the visible wrench. Everyone stays behind the marked boundary.]
Slow and steady, nice and straight, careful hands will make it great!
A little to the left... no, MY left!
Does the wrench know which left?
Everyone quiet! I'm concentrating!
[The hook catches the wrench. Boomer slowly draws it towards the bank, keeping the pole on firm ground. The wrench slides onto the solid path.]
WE DID IT!
[Sunny does a celebratory cheer. Jock pumps his fists. Yolko's tablet starts beeping again.]
Oh, too late!
Better late than never, Yolko!
[Everyone laughs.]
[Boomer picks up the muddy wrench and gently wipes it clean with a cloth.]
There you are, old girl. I thought I'd lost you.
[He looks at the Eggbuds.]
I owe you all an apology. I thought because I'm older, and I've been doing this job for years, I was the only one who knew how to solve the problem.
Everyone knows different things.
Knowledge comes in many forms.
Some of it even comes with flashing lights.
[Yolko’s tablet beeps again.]
Usually.
Being strong helped, but we needed everyone's ideas.
And a drawing to turn those ideas into a plan.
And team spirit!
And a little style.
And a tune.
And comedy. You're welcome.
You know what? You're right. You little ones know a lot more than I gave you credit for. I was so busy thinking about how things used to be done, I forgot there might be new ways to do them.
The best plan was the one we worked out together.
My grandad used to say, "A good tool can fix a broken thing, but a good team can fix a whole lot more."
Did he really say that?
Well... no. I just made it up.
You're a natural! Welcome to the comedy club!
[They all laugh.]
Thank you, all of you. And from now on, if I have a problem, I'll ask for your ideas before I decide I know everything.
Deal!
Now, who's ready to help me clean up this mess?
[Everyone takes a step backwards.]
Suddenly, I have a very important appointment... with absolutely nothing.
Don't worry. I'll get the mop.
[He reaches for his cart, then pauses.]
Actually... Has anyone got any ideas for getting that rake back?
[Everyone exchanges mischievous looks.]
BOOOOMER!!
[They burst into laughter. Fade to black]
